Moultrie Co. Real Estate Taxes Mailed
•June 15, 2016•
Moultrie County real estate taxes were mailed June 14. The first installment is due July 15, 2016 and the second installment is due September 2, 2016.
Taxpayers should look over their tax bills including reading the back of the bill to make sure all of the information is correct. It is the responsibility of the property owner to report all address changes to the assessor’s office by calling 728-4951. Assessment and exemption questions should be directed to the Supervisor of Assessments office.
Taxes may now be paid at any bank in Moultrie County including Scott State Bank and First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust in Mt. Zion and online at www.govtechtaxpro.com. The postmarked date of payment is accepted so payments may be mailed to Moultrie County Collector, 10 S. Main Suite 10, Sullivan, IL. 61951. If a payment is mailed on the due date, the sender may want to have the post office hand cancel the stamp. Post-dated checks are not accepted. If a receipt is desired when mailing payments, include a self-addressed stamped envelope and the entire tax bill. Payments may be paid in the county collector’s office on the second floor of the courthouse. When remitting without the original tax bill, a $1 duplicate bill fee will be charged. When the tax bill is available and being paid by check, it may be left in the planning office on the first floor. Their hours are subject to changes but normally are 8:30-noon and 1-4:30 Monday-Friday. Credit card payments are accepted online only.
After the due dates, a penalty charge of 1-1/2 percent per month or any part of a month in which the installment remains delinquent is added.
Those receiving a tax bill when the taxes are to be paid by a mortgage/escrow company should forward a copy of the bill to the company for a timely payment.
Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve taxpayers from their tax liability. Property owners who do not receive a tax bill or have questions may call the treasurer’s office at 728-4032.
