Sullivan Rotary Helps Moultrie County C.E.F.S. With New Freezer
The Sullivan Rotary Club recently sought a grant to help one of their community partners with a need. Since C.E.F.S. does so much for the community, the Rotary Club of Sullivan donated a huge new freezer to replace a faulty one that could not be used to full capacity and leaked water. Allison Garrett, Outreach Coordinator at Moultrie County C.E.F.S. came to visit Rotary to thank them personally. Pictured are Allison Garrett, Outreach Coordinator at Moultrie County C.E.F.S., Stan Parks, Club Secretary; Susan Rauch, Club Treasurer; and George Levi, Club President.

25 Years Ago This Week

The weekend’s Festival of the Stars was the best attended ever, said organizer David Leslie. “There was a great response from the community,” Leslie said “I saw more people from the community on the square than I’ve ever seen.”

The Little Theatre On The Square in Sullivan was to receive significant funding, thanks to being named an Established Regional Arts Institution by the Illinois Arts Council. The new program highlights for the first time significant cultural institutions throughout Illinois and included only 39 institutions representing seven regions of the state. Read More

To Err is Human; To Learn From One’s Mistakes is Divine

No one is perfect. I certainly am not. Nobody who works here is. But, boy, do we try to come close every day and try to learn from our mistakes.
Some days are better than others, of course.
What follows is a compilation of reader complaints in the area of grammar and usage. Perhaps it will be helpful to you, too.
Enjoy your date with Schadenfreude.

Would you agree?

Subject-verb agreement is among the first things an editor looks for when going through a story.
Editing for spelling errors are also high on that list.
Aha! I did that on purpose. Read More

Pritzker Announces Plans for Broader Reopening

News Progress Posted on May 12, 2021 by webmasterMay 12, 2021

•May 12, 2021•
By Capitol News Illinois

Gov. JB Pritzker said Thursday that Illinois will enter the “bridge” phase to full reopening on Friday, May 14. And barring any reversal of current trends, Phase 5, or full reopening, will begin on June 11.
He also announced that residents can now obtain COVID-19 vaccines from their physicians’ offices, rather than just designated vaccine sites, as public health officials continue to confront hesitancy within many communities to accept the vaccines.
Thursday’s announcement came as the state reached a new benchmark of having 55 percent of adults age 16 and over, and 80 percent of people age 65 and over, having received at least one dose of vaccine, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. Meanwhile, the daily number of new cases, hospitalization rates and intensive care unit usage have all been falling or leveling off.
Under the bridge phase – a transition phase between the current Phase 4 mitigations and the virtually complete reopening of Phase 5 – certain capacity limits will be eased at various kinds of events. Restaurants, for example, will be allowed to increase from 25 to 30 percent of capacity, as long as people maintain six feet of distance from one another, while offices, personal care facilities and retail service counters can increase from 50 to 60 percent of capacity.
