Moultrie County Farm Cash Rent Bid Packets Available

Moultrie County is now taking bids on 217.58 acres of farmland located 1 mile West of Sullivan South of the Moultrie County Animal Shelter.
This farm is enrolled in the USDA/FSA Farm Program. The terms of the Lease shall be for two years commencing November 1, 2020.
Bidding limited to Moultrie County residents or owners of not less than 40 acres of Moultrie County farmland.
Bid packets may be obtained from the County Clerk's office, Moultrie County Courthouse, 10 S. Main, Sullivan beginning July 15, 2020.
Sealed bids should be returned to the County Clerk’s office by 12 noon on August 5, 2020, with the opening of bids that day at 3:00 p.m. in the Board Room, Second Floor of the Courthouse

Income Tax Filing Deadline Approaching

Today, the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) reminds taxpayers the state individual income tax filing and payment deadline is July 15, just days away. This year’s deadline was extended three months by Governor JB Pritzker in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both state and federal returns are due on July 15. Read More

25 Years Ago This Week
In Marion Best’s column she relays visits from those who used to live in Sullivan Dick LeVene and his sister Rochelle Pursifull, members of the SHS class of 1962.
Excited about the Fourth Celebration Marion wrote: “I may even wear my new T-shirt. It was a gift from Hollis Dick of Bethany. In keeping with the fish wrap shenanigans he found one and gave it to me. It reads: “Something fishy!” I love it.”
Jenny Uphoff was crowned Miss Lovington by Melanie Harlin. Elise Wildman was Little Miss Lovington; Tyler Dixon, Little Mr. Lovington; Jessica Qualls, Miss Congeniality and Jennifer Elliott first runner up.
Sullivan High School and Eastern Illinois University graduate Daniel Fultz is serving as Illinois Legislative staff intern for the General Assembly.
The son of Dan S. Fultz of Sullivan and Linda Hoskins of Gays he was one of three chosen from 10 applicants.
He graduated from SHS in 1986 and received a masters in political science from EIU.

Illinois Summer Starts Off Warm and Dry

June temperatures were above average in Illinois and precipitation was below average, according to Illinois State Climatologist Trent Ford at the University of Illinois’ Illinois State Water Survey.
The preliminary statewide average June temperature was 73.7 degrees, 1.8 degrees above normal. The preliminary statewide average total June precipitation was 3.70 inches, 0.51 inches below the 30-year normal.
Temperatures
June was warmer than normal for most of the northern two-thirds of the state following a warm end to May. June average temperatures ranged from the high 60s in northern Illinois to the high 70s in southern Illinois.
In the northern part of the state, June was 1 to 6 degrees warmer than normal, with the highest departures in northern and northeast Illinois. Read More

Do We Care What God Thinks About Much of Anything?

As a wake-up call I would like to point out how President Ronald Reagan quoted II Chronicles 7:14 in his 1981 Inaugural address when he said: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
It seems to me that affluence can deaden our hearts, lessening our dependence upon God?
How long has it been since our nation really cared what God thinks about much of anything? If we don’t take a stand, what can we expect to happen to our country?
We want God to heal our land but let us continue down the same path, to allow us to maintain our lifestyles that we have grown accustomed to, but do we really want to humble ourselves, pray and seek His face and turn from our wicked ways?
We want to be blessed without really caring what God thinks about much of anything. Read More
