The Illinois Department of Revenue (“IDOR”) began accepting 2018 state individual income tax returns Monday, January 28, the same date that the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) began accepting federal individual income tax returns. IDOR is reminding taxpayers that filing tax returns electronically and requesting direct deposit into a checking or savings account is still the fastest, most secure way to receive a refund. SEA Recognizes Excellence
The Sullivan Education Association recognized the Teacher and Support Staff of the Semester for Sullivan Schools. The SEA received over 30 nominations, and three teachers and one support staff were chosen by their colleagues for their dedication and service to the students and families of the Sullivan School District. Janet McFarland, Scott Bales, Poppy Ann Graham, and Courtney Leach were the recipients of the rewards. The recipients were each gifted a $25 Chamber Bucks certificate donated by Zak Horn of Metro Communications and a car detailing by Kevin Landrus.

Each year course offerings at Sullivan High School are analyzed and reviewed. This process was recently completed, and Sullivan Schools are excited to expand our course offerings for the 2019-2020 school year to align with students’ interests as well as ensure that students are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to take the next step for their careers.
Many of the additions were made in our vocational programming for students. Sullivan schools are fortunate to be able to have a diverse offering of programs for students to develop skills that can carry over into a number of careers. Read More

Eastern Illinois University’s Booth Library will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, as well as examine current and future space exploration, in a new exhibit, “On the Shoulders of Giants: The Moon and Beyond.” The exhibit will be on display through May 31.
“On the Shoulders of Giants” will include a look at several of the Apollo missions, with a focus on Apollo 11, the lunar landing of July 20, 1969; EIU alumni connections to the space program; biographies of specific astronauts; space exploration today and in the future; female contributions to space exploration; and more. The first Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance Banquet is being held at the Sullivan VFW on February 23, 2019 with 100% of the proceeds going to improve the fisheries and fish habitat in Lake Shelbyville.
The doors open at 5:00 p.m. with dinner starting at 7:00 p.m.. The banquet is being hosted by the Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance, a group that is focused on improving the fisheries at Lake Shelbyville.
