More than 30 high schools including Sullivan and Windsor participate in the Dual Credit Program through Lake Land College.

This fall, the Lake Land College Dual Credit Program will host various parent and student information nights throughout the college district. The information nights are open to parents of and students who are high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.

“Sometimes college can be intimidating, costly or overwhelming, but for high school students throughout the Lake Land College district, they can get a taste of college without ever leaving their high school classrooms,” said Aaron Hale, director of Dual Credit.

The Lake Land College Dual Credit Program offers eligible high school juniors and seniors the chance to enroll in college-level courses while earning both high school and college credit, tuition free. Courses are taught by a high school teacher who is qualified to instruct college-level classes during the regular high school day at the high school’s facilities.

During the information nights, parents and students will learn about opportunities at district high schools, types of courses offered, transfer information and costs associated with dual credit classes. Read More

USDA Rural Development is accepting Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) applications for: 1) loans and grants for renewable energy systems and energy efficiency improvements, and 2) grants for energy audits and renewable energy development assistance. Read More

Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs today announced a partnership between the state’s I-Cash program and the Illinois Retail Merchants Association (IRMA) to facilitate the return of recovered cash and assets to retailers.

The Illinois Treasurer’s Office has identified nearly 1,000 companies with $25,000 or more in unclaimed property, totaling more than $80 million. Among these, IRMA has helped identify 63 companies from the retail industry with nearly $4.2 million in property to claim. Through this new partnership, the Illinois Treasurer’s I-Cash program is teaming with IRMA to encourage retailers to initiate their claims and assist in the process.

As part of the Illinois Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Division, the I-Cash program connects state residents and businesses with their unclaimed money and other assets. The Unclaimed Property Division recovers hundreds of thousands of properties each year from government agencies, banks, insurers, utilities, and other companies across the country that have been unable to return the properties to their rightful owners. The I-Cash program then works to notify owners and reunite them with their money and other property. Last year, the I-Cash program reunited individuals, businesses and others with $163 million in cash and property.

“Working with IRMA will help us return money and property to their rightful owners faster,” Frerichs said. “Illinois retailers and other businesses have tens of millions of dollars waiting to be claimed, and we’re eager to get this money back into their hands, and back into the economy.” Read More

Lake Land College is holding annual Laker Visit Day Friday, Oct. 23. Activities start in the Luther Student Center lobby at 9 a.m. and run until noon.

The event is for potential students who are interested in learning more about Lake Land College. Parents/guardians and spouses are welcome to come along and attend the parent and spouse session.

Representatives from Admissions, Financial Aid, Counseling, Career Services and Student Life will provide information and answer questions. The event includes campus tours and informational sessions by current Lake Land College student ambassadors and college staff. Participants will also meet with faculty members in their academic area of interest to learn more about program offerings at Lake Land.  Read More
