Students from Okaw Valley Middle School and Windsor Junior High are among more than 130 students from 18 area junior high schools who participated in the Frances Watts Johnston Junior High Honors Band and Chorus Festival recently at Lake Land College. Those from Okaw Valley are Shelby Hagerman, trumpet; Shelby Harding, flute and Madison Vogel and Connor Powers both on baritone. Choir students include sopranos Sadie Zimmerman and Isabella Benning and alto Kaylee Taylor. Attending from Windsor are Miranda Hayward, flute, Logan Greuel, tenor saxophone, Michael McCoy, trombone and Brandon Newell, percussion. Read More

State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) and the Illinois Farm Bureau teamed up to add legal protections for homeowners and landowners when it comes to the planning and surveying for electric transmission lines on their property.
“This legislation is designed to provide better notification and more transparency during the entire process to landowners who are potentially involved in these projects,” Rose said. “Obviously, when you ‘flip a switch,’ we all want the lights to turn on, but how the big power companies treat people when planning for the delivery of electric service is no less important.” Read More

The sixth annual Amish Country Tractor Cruise will be held Saturday, June 13 in Arthur. A 40 mile cruise will take riders on a picturesque cruise through the heart of Illinois Amish country that will feature the communities of Arthur and Lovington.
Registration for the cruise will begin at 7 a.m. at Yoder’s Kitchen, located on IL Route 133 in Arthur, and departure will be 8 a.m. A rest stop will be in Lovington at the firehouse, and lunch will be served by Yoder Farms and Drainage near Sullivan before returning to Arthur at approximately 2:30 p.m. This year the cruise is raising funds for “Christ’s Pantry” in Lovington which provides food assistance to needy families in Lovington and surrounding communities. A special Luminaria Ceremony held during the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Moultrie County remembers those lost to cancer and honors those who have survived. Luminarias will be lit at Wyman Park on June 13 to represent these individuals.

Lake Land College honored its students’ achievements at the annual Student Recognition Banquet held recently in Mattoon.
More than 130 students were officially recognized at the event hosted by the Student Government Association.
Students were recognized for their academic achievements, elected offices and organizational roles for the academic year.
Seven students received the Outstanding Student Award for their academic division, including Aaron Derby of Sullivan, Technology Division. The awards are given to a student from each academic division who has displayed excellence within his/her division as well as contributed to Lake Land College and the community. Read More
