Rules of the Road Review Course Nov. 5 in Sullivan

Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with Mid-Illinois Senior Services, Inc., is offering a Rules of the Road Review Course for all citizens in the Sullivan area. The course is free to anyone who wishes to attend.

C.E.F.S. Recognizes Fleshner for Personal Achievement

C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation recently showcased their 49th year of accomplishments demonstrating the fact that community action helps people and changes lives. During the 2014 annual meeting, some very special people were recognized that had overcome obstacles in obtaining or maintaining self-sufficiency. According to C.E.F.S. Chief Executive Officer Paul White, “This past year our programs and services truly made a real difference in the lives of residents of the community.”

Trudy Fleshner first came into the C.E.F.S. Moultrie County Outreach Office in Sullivan in 1998 to get help with diapers, baby food and quilts for her children. Over the years Fleshner and her family have utilized the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, food pantry, prescription assistance and Christmas vouchers when needed. Fleshner’s son Brandon was in the Head Start Program when he was younger. Read More

Findlay ALA Has Successful Blood Drive

Dove’s Domestic Violence Education and Volunteer Training Nov. 3-19

Training is available for individuals interested in educating themselves on the issues surrounding domestic violence. The training will take place November 3-19, Monday through Thursday afternoons from 1-5 p.m., in Decatur at Dove, 302 S. Union, Dean Simcox Conference Center. This 40-hour training is approved by ICADV (Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence) and facilitated by Dove and other community agencies’ staff members. There is a fee for the training but some scholarships are available. Read More

Youth Waterfowl Hunting at Okaw Wetland

Okaw Wetlands offers 10 waterfowl blinds that will be available during the youth waterfowl season by special use permit only.  To obtain a special use permit, all hunters must make a reservation by telephone.  Reservations for youth season will be accepted starting Monday, October 6, at 8:30 a.m. No advance reservations will be accepted prior to this date and time.  Hunters will only be allowed to reserve one blind for either Saturday or Sunday.  The telephone number to call when making reservations is: (217) 774-3951 Ext: 7019. Oktoberfest 2014 Back Bigger & Better Than Ever

The 2014 Oktoberfest and 11th annual chili cook-off is back bigger and better than ever. This year’s festival will be held 6-11 p.m. Friday October 17 and noon-11 p.m. Saturday, October 18.

Friday night festivities include arts, crafts, and food vendors. The Sullivan Area Arts Council (SAARTS) will host Artoberfest at Cathrine’s Gallery Gifts & More. A highlight to the festival this year, the Oktoberfest wine tasting at 5 West will be open from 6-9 p.m., and the Oktoberfest beer tent will be open 6-11 p.m. Friday. LLC Board Of Trustee Election Petitions Available

Persons who wish to file for a seat on the Board of Trustees of Lake Land College, Community College District No. 517, may pick up nominating petitions at the office of Jean Anne Grunloh, executive assistant to the president at Lake Land College on or after Sept. 23.

Petitions are available from 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday when the college is open. Grunloh’s office is located in the administrative wing of the Luther Student Center on campus in Mattoon. Read More
