Third Annual Mattoon to Peoria Run for St. Jude this Friday

Shelby County Rural Emergency Addressing Plan progressing; Bethany, Findlay areas to see new address cards by May; Gays and Windsor by June

Shelbyville – The Shelby County Board approved a plan at their June 13, 2012 meeting to bring a Rural Emergency Addressing system to the unincorporated areas of Shelby County. The plan was presented by Emergency Management Coordinator Jared Rowcliffe. Rowcliffe represented the Rural Emergency Addressing Committee that was formed by the board to research the benefits and feasibility of a new system at the January 11 meeting.  Read More

SOV JFL to hold fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings

The Sullivan Okaw Valley Junior Football League (SOV JFL) will host an Eat Wing, Raise Funds Community Night at Buffalo Wild Wings in Mattoon May 15. The event will be open to the public from 4-10 p.m. The establishment will donate 10% of all sales (excluding tax, tips and alcoholic drinks) with an accompanying ticket. Tickets are available at team registration, on the website at sovjfl.com or by contacting the JFL at sovjfl@yahoo.com Tickets will also be available from SOV JFL board members including Brad Foster, Cindi Klukis, Scott Finfrock, Ella Doris, Tanya Chappell, Brandy Binder and Larry Kesterson.

Boosters to hold mouse race fundraiser May 11

The Sullivan Sports Boosters will hold a pork chop supper along with the Redskin Mouse Races which are hosted by Hederman Events of St. Louis May 11 at the Sullivan American Legion.

The Sports Boosters aid in purchasing supplies for the Sullivan athletic teams as well as supporting the co-op teams with Okaw Valley such as football, track and cross country.

Landmark torn down



News Progress


The home at the intersection of Route 133 and Route 32 in Lovington was torn down last week. The house had become a major hazard after a box truck struck it, taking out a large portion of the north wall. The owners had the home demolished after it was deemed a public safety issue.
