A financial emergency is any expense or loss of income you do not plan for, like a missed paycheck, a damaged roof, a flat tire, or a medical bill. According to FEMA, 6 out of 10 households in America experience at least one financial emergency in a year and about one-third of American families do not have any savings. Financial emergencies can result from health or medical care issues, household expenses, or natural disasters. Isaac Hill’s Mission for Jefferson

I’ve read a lot of books about Illinois, but none mention Isaac Hill’s expedition for President Thomas Jefferson to explore the interior of Illinois along the third principal meridian. When I found Hill’s 1811 hand-drawn map reproduced in the reprint of the Montgomery and Bond County History, I gained new insight into the history of the Kaskaskia River Valley.

The Windsor Schools have released a short calendar of important dates for their students in the next few months. 

 December 20th: 2pm early dismissal 
December 23rd through January 3rd: No school (Winter Break) 
January 6th: School resumes 
January 20th: No school, Martin Luther King Jr. day 
February 7th: Noon dismissal 
February 17th: No school, President’s day

If you house or plan to host small children or pets for the holidays, the MCHD recommends the following precautions to help keep the holidays merry and bright for everyone.

Tree Safety

Anchor Your Tree: Christmas trees can be a tipping hazard. Secure your tree to the wall or use a heavy, stable stand to prevent it from toppling if a child pulls or leans on it.

Illinois LICA hosts safety workshop series

The Illinois Land Improvement Contractors Association (ILICA) is hosting a safety workshop series at 3 locations across the state in January for anyone seeking 10HR OSHA, Flagger, and/or CPR certification. Training will be provided by ILICA member Grey & Associates.  

 The 2-day workshops include a full day and a half of 10HR OSHA certification training, followed by a half day of either flagger or CPR certification training. Attendees may register for any certification individually or receive a maximum of two (2) certifications per workshop. Member and non-member rates apply. No prerequisites required. The first days of training run from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and the second days run from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. with lunch provided both days. Workshops are scheduled for the following dates and locations throughout January:

Paul Krows, Moultrie County Farm Advisor, retired after a 42 year career in public service to agriculture.

Glen Landers of Sullivan was elected the new president of Illinois Foundation Seeds, Inc. of Champaign.

Fall-out shelter supplies for 2,100 persons were stockpiled at Illinois Masonic Home. There are six shelters in the five buildings at the home.

Windsor Students of the Month

Logan

Windsor Jr./Sr. High School recently announced their November Students of the Month, Logan Corrie and Dayton Montgomery. Logan is the son of Kevin and Valerie Corrie.  He is currently a sophomore and is involved in Basketball, Golf, Student Council, NHS, and Scholastic Bowl.  His future career is undecided. 

Dayton

Dayton is the son of Dustin and Robin Montgomery.  He is currently a 7th grade student and is involved in Basketball.  In his spare time, he likes to play video games with his Dad.

LTOTS cast meets Comet
