Windsor Jr./Sr. High School recently announced their October Students of the Month Emma Hickman and Lily Ault.
Emma Hickman is the daughter of Andy and Annie Hickman. She is currently a freshman and is involved in FFA, Drumline, Pep Band, 4-H, and Bible Quizzing. She plans to become a landscaped designer after graduating for high school.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Wolf Creek State Park will hold the 34th Annual Lake Shelbyville Deer Hunt for People with Disabilities during the first firearm deer season on November 22-24. The hunt will be conducted in portions of recreation areas at Lake Shelbyville that are closed for the season. As a safety precaution, Lone Point and Lithia Springs Campgrounds and all of Sullivan Beach, Wilborn Creek, Coon Creek, and Opossum Creek Recreation Areas will be closed to all automobile and pedestrian traffic from 2 p.m. Thursday, November 21 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 24.

Former Illinois Governor and Eastern Illinois University alumnus James Edgar will headline “An Evening with Jim Edgar” at EIU 7 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, November 20, where Edgar will share reflections on his life and political insights from his time in government. Admission is free and members of the general public are invited and encouraged to attend. The event will take place in EIU’s University Ballroom, located in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union, on campus at 1720 7th Street in Charleston, and is sponsored by EIU Student Government.

The Windsor School District has started releasing 1st quarter grades and honor rolls, starting with the junior high students, grades 7th and 8th. Honor roll is achieved when a student has primarily earned an ‘A’ in every class or have a 3.30 GPA or higher. These students who qualify are honored each quarter and celebrated within the schools for their hard work and dedication to education. Honor roll also has a prestigious level to honor roll label, high honor roll in which students must have a 3.7 GPA or higher to achieve.

The W.H.A.T. civic group invites everyone to celebrate the season at Windsor Wonderland, which is happening on Saturday, December 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. This much-anticipated holiday tradition is packed with festive activities and free fun for all ages.
The evening begins with the Golf Cart and ATV Lighted Parade, a vibrant spectacle of illuminated vehicles spreading holiday cheer. Parade participants will line up at the Windsor High School parking lot at 4:30 p.m., with the parade kicking off at 4:45 p.m.. The procession will culminate at the Community Christmas Tree, where the tree lighting ceremony will officially launch the evening’s festivities at 5:00 p.m.

Cathrine Craig, owner of Cathrine’s Gallery, on November 18th announced plans to close the gallery’s doors after 11 years of operation. The gallery’s final retail day will be Saturday, December 21st.

Lake Land College, a community college super-power, has partnered with Millikin University in a project to simplify transfer processes between schools. The partnership as stated by LLC, will allow all graduates whom completed their degree within the two-year term with full-time enrollment, to seamlessly transfer to Millikin University. Lake Land Students who wish to transfer to Millikin after graduation will also be set up with a learning plan to keep the student on track and will receive automatic acceptance into Millikin baccalaureate degree program upon a successful completion of Associates in Arts, Associates in Science, Associates in Engineering Science or Associates in Applied Science with a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

One of the hardest parts about the Christmas season is the wrapping paper and choosing which one to use each year. For some, wrapping paper changes per gift or per person, while others manage to get away with foldable bags and tissue paper, the wrappings are necessary. Starting on November 18th, the High School Student Council has been hosting a wrapping paper drive, which will end on December 3rd. Labeled as a class competition for points, any and all types of wrapping paper will be accepted.
