It was a cool Saturday evening in April when students and families gathered by Wyman Lake’s pier to take pictures before prom officially kicked off at 8:00pm. Having spent nearly twenty minutes taking pictures of all varieties, four track relay teammates came together for a photo. Seniors Easton England, Owen Hussong, Hayden Moody, along with sophomore Johnny Iacobazzi stood smiling as the 4x800m relay team.
After several pictures were taken, a voice from the side said, “Now let’s get one with the number one alternate.” It was Rhett “Cowboy” Lehman. As he took his place in the middle of the four, he said, “I’m always ready at a moment’s notice.” Lehman’s mom, Erica Lehman, turned to the other parents and said, “It’s true. The Miss Sullivan Pageants did a bingo prize drive for Mid-Illinois Senior Services, Inc. They spent a few weeks collecting and this week, both Miss Sullivan Sarina Voegel & Jr. Miss Sullivan Miah Voegel delivered the prizes to the senior center.

Living wax museum
The Sullivan Elementary School 4th graders presented their annual end of the school year living wax museum projects last Tuesday. Each student was given the assignment of choosing a real life person, living or dead, who has had a positive impact on American culture and/or history. The students researched, put together a report about the person, and put together some kind of costume and booth presentation for the person they chose.

What’s wrong with Sarah?
Sarah sat in her favorite chair, staring blankly at the family photos on the mantelpiece. Her husband, James, noticed her distant gaze and gently touched her shoulder to get her attention. “Are you all right, sweetheart?” he asked, with concern in his voice.
She turned to James with a faint smile, her eyes showing a hint of confusion. “I’m fine, just a bit tired,” she replied. The growing frequency of these lapses weighed heavily on her mind. Deep down, she knew something wasn’t right, but the fear of what it might mean kept her silent. Read More

Poppys Day
The Sullivan American Auxilary was set up Friday at Kirby Foods selling poppies. Each year millions of Americans wear little red poppies in memory of those who have died in all wars and to assist in the rehabilitation of those Veterans who are now hospitalized suffering from wounds and illness. Several Sullivan students were honored April 28th for their entries in ‘Through Their Eyes: A Holocaust Art and Writing Contest’ sponsored by the Holocaust Education Center (HEC) of the Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation.
“The contest focused on honoring Holocaust victims, both Jewish and non-Jewish, along with resisters, rescuers and liberators,” noted Rebecca Lawson, contest coordinator and HEC co-director.
“We asked teachers to involve their students in the contest by creating artwork, poetry, prose, or film that would highlight their creative talents while helping them connect to individuals impacted by the Holocaust,” she added. Read More

Photos by R.R. Best Remembrance A Memorial Day observance was held in Sullivan on Monday morning. Since 1971, when Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday, it has continued to be a dedicated day for honoring U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. Over 1.3 Million Americans have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their nation. The ceremony was led by the Sullivan American Legion.

All school track meet
Sullivan Elementary School kids competed in an all school track meet at Victory Field Thursday after school. Students competed in the softball toss, sprints and long jump, as well as other events. Pictured above is 4th grader Mia Martin. More photos are on our website at www.newsprogress.com
