One Book One Sullivan Gathers to Discuss Book

One Book, One Sullivan met Monday, March 4 at First United Methodist Church in Sullivan to discuss this years book choice “City Spies” by James Ponti. Sullivan Middle School students led all of the discussion tables on the night that saw over 100 people attend.

According to the author’s website, www.jamesponti.com, Sarah Martinez is a hacker facing years in juvenile detention, until she meets Mother, a spy who gets her out of jail and into MI6, British Secret Intelligence. Operating out of a castle in Scotland, the City Spies are five kids from around the world who’ve fallen through the cracks only to form a family like no other. When they’re not at the local boarding school, they’re mastering spy skills such as sleight of hand, breaking and entering, covert observation, and explosives. Moultrie County Heritage Center to Present “Tales my Grandfather Told Me”

“Tales my Grandfather Told Me” will be presented by Steve Poland at 7 pm on Thursday, March 21, at the Moultrie County History Center on 1303 S. Hamilton, Sullivan. This will be the opening program of the Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society’s 2024 season.  

Steve’s maternal grandfather, Ray Misenheimer, was a great story teller. About once a year, he took his grandchildren on a tour of sites in his East Nelson Township neighborhood southwest of Allenville, spinning tales about the colorful people and events from long ago as they drove along. Steve, a great story teller himself, with a good memory, will share some of these stories. The public is invited to attend.  

Restringing the Loom

Restringing the Loom
David Bell of Fairfield came to the Moultrie County History Museum on Wednesday, February 21 to restring a loom that the Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society had donated to them. The loom will be incorporated into a future exhibit at the museum.

Annual FFA Auction Held 2024

Annual FFA Auction Held
The Annual Sullivan FFA and Alumni Auction was held at the high school on Saturday, March 2nd. They auctioned off over 100 items that had been donated from the community and surrounding areas. Students took what they learned in their agriculture classes and took to the community to work with companies to collect donations. Porky, the pig, traveled around the town to collect donations to be auctioned off that night. They would like to thank those who donated and to everyone who attended the auction and supported us this year.

Writing Team from Sullivan Ties for First Place in Contest

North Dean, a Sullivan High School sophomore, recently received word that the entry they submitted to the 2023 Rachel Carson Intergenerational Sense of the Wonder/Sense of the Wild Contest tied for first place in the “Essay with a Photograph” division. They worked with retired SHS English teacher Becky Lawson on an essay called “Resilient Beauty” and submitted it with a photo that they took of wildflowers, the topic of their essay.  Read More

City Council Approves Items for Cedar Dale Subdivision

The Sullivan City Council approved two items related to the Cedar Dale Subdivision during the Monday, February 26 meeting at the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library. One item was the approval of a project authorization with Milano and Grunloh for the preparation of plans, specs and IEPA permits for the subdivision sewer extension and the other was awarding a quote for directional boring for the subdivision.  Read More
