Rozella Atkinson
Rozella “Rozie” Atkinson, 106, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away July 10, 2023, in her apartment at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield. Rozie was born in Findlay, Illinois, February 22, 1917, a daughter of Arch and Edith Atkinson.

She was a 1935 graduate of Findlay High School and graduated from Sparks Business College in 1936. After graduating, she got an offer to go to Washington DC to work for the Loans & Currency Department of the U.S. Treasury. She soon took a position in the Department of Justice where she worked her way up to secretary, typing briefs for the U.S. Supreme Court. In 1945 several of the attorneys she worked with were transferred to New York City. They asked her to go along because they said she could get along with everyone. She worked in NYC until 1946, when one of the attorneys moved to Kansas City, Missouri. He asked Rozie to go along and become his office manager. She worked for him until his death in 1967. She then went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the Poultry Division, retiring in 1984.
After retirement in 1984, Rozie spent many years volunteering for the Kidney Foundation and at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. She also enjoyed traveling internationally with a group of friends. She was a season ticket holder for the Kansas City Chiefs for more than 50 years.
Preceding her in death were her parents, sister Losha Guin and nephews Thomas Guin Jr. and Stanley Guin. She is survived by nephew Gregory Guin of Urbana and great nieces and great nephews, (Trace, Jalee, Quentin, Bret, Kristin, Katherine and Margaret). Also, dear friends, Kent and Julie Melcher, their children and grandchildren.

Graveside services to be held Sunday September 3 at 1 p.m., Findlay Cemetery, Findlay, Illinois.
