Allen “Lee” Slater

Allen “Lee” Slater, 90, of Windsor passed away at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, January 3, 2021 at home.
Lee was born August 23, 1930, in Pana, the son of John and Mildred Slater. Lee grew up in Windsor, graduating from Windsor High School in 1948; he was a star basketball player. After graduation, Lee attended Millikin University before marrying Elizabeth Kays, his high school sweetheart, in 1949. Lee joined the family business, Windsor Supply Co., where he worked building and remodeling homes. He built many homes in and around the Windsor area, including the Slater Subdivision. Lee retired as an owner of Windsor Supply Co. after 65 years. Read More

Lloyd Maurer

Lloyd Henry Maurer 95, of DeKalb, Illinois, formerly of Sullivan, passed away peacefully Friday January 1, 2021 at Oakcrest Retirement Center in DeKalb. He was born December 19, 1925, in Decatur, Illinois and was the son of Carl I. and Nina M. (Obourn) Maurer.
Lloyd enlisted in the Army Air Force in late 1943 and served two years during World War II in northern Africa at Casablanca, Morocco as an office assistant to headquarter officers. Lloyd married Helen L. Fahrnkopf September 11, 1949. Lloyd farmed in rural Sullivan for 40 years from 1950-1990. In 1990 he was named Moultrie County Soil and Water Conservation District Farmer of the Year. Read More

Dale Henry Lovekamp, 88, of Beardstown, died peacefully with his family at his side Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
He was born September 27, 1932 in Arenzville, a son of Robert Henry and Minnie Roegge Lovekamp. He married Wyllia June Tucker February 13, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beardstown, and she survives. They have been married 66 years. Read More

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
