Nancy L. Bruce Ralston, 87, of Shelbyville, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Saturday March 21, 2020 in Hawthorn Inn, Shelbyville.
Private family services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Rev Mark Sanders officiating. There will not be a visitation. Burial will be in the Camfield Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Children’s Hospital at shrinershospitalforchildren.org or at Reed Funeral Home. Nancy was born December 20, 1932 in Kirksville the daughter of Ray and Elsie Jeffers Bruce. As a child she attended the Reedy School in Kirksville and graduated from Sullivan High School in 1950. She was a member of the Shelby Christian Church. She married James Ralston on January 12, 1969 in Bloomington and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2013. She and her husband had owned and operated the Ralston Variety Store in Watseka. After retirement they enjoyed RVing full time.
Surviving are her sons Danny (Patricia) Weaver of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Ronnie (Sue) Weaver of Sullivan; daughter Jannie (Rodney) Wiley of Shelbyville; stepsons Steven (Diana) Ralston of Decatur, David (Ann) Ralston of Louisville, Kentucky; stepdaughters Jennifer Kruger of South Bend, Indiana and Judith (Jack) Kercheval of Sullivan; seven grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one on the way and nine step great grandchildren.
She was preceded death by her parents, husband, sister Patsy Bishop, brothers Gary Bruce and Stanley Bruce and niece Tammy.

William McLaughlin

William Dean "Bill" McLaughlin, 64, of Centralia passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at his home in Centralia. He was born on August 11, 1955 the son of Dr. Dean and Thelma (Bierman) McLaughlin in Sullivan, IL.

Survivors include his loving siblings, David McLaughlin and wife Janet of Maryville, MO, Jean Kim and husband David of Carmel Valley, CA, Susan Selock and husband Dan of Goreville, IL, John McLaughlin of Centralia, Elizabeth Ann McLaughlin of Centralia; step-mother, Mary McLaughlin of Sullivan, IL; brother-in-law, Ted Dzierzynski of Astoria, NY; step-sisters, Cathy Norman, and Shawna Tatarchuk; step-brother, Brian Wakeland; and many nieces, and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by both his parents; and sister, Phyllis Dzierzynski.

Bill was a 1973 graduate of Sullivan High School and continued his education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He was a member of, and served as elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Centralia. He had a passion and a true gift for cooking, always using fresh ingredients. He was famous for his mouthwatering, homemade apple pies, clam chowder, chocolate chip cookies, and homemade rolls. He had a green thumb and grew amazing gardens that allowed him to create delicious dishes, and can flavorful vegetables for future use. Bill was no stranger to a game of bridge, attending bridge club for many years. He enjoyed traveling but was always at the ready to come home to help his family if ever they were in need. Bill was a devoted son, living on the family farm in order to be close to care for his mother. Family was of great importance to Bill and he was considered the family historian as he could trace the family back many generatio
ns. Bill's dedication to family, and kindness to all will not be forgotten.

Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is honored to be assisting the family of Bill McLaughlin with arrangements. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 16, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church in Centralia. Interment will follow at Hillcrest memorial Park in rural Sandoval. A visitation time will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church on Monday. Memorials may be made in Bill's honor to First Presbyterian Church and will be accepted at the funeral home. Virginia Lee Eaton, age 95, of Mattoon passed away at 12:50 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2020, in Heartland Christian Village.

Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon is assisting the family.
Virginia was born May 8, 1924, in Moultrie County, Illinois, the daughter of Harry C. and Anna (Chaney) Pettit. She married Nehemiah Eaton August 1, 1959, and he preceded her in death in 2001.
Survivors include her children Joyce Baugher (daughter-in-law) of Neoga, Kenneth Phillips (son-in-law) of Mattoon, Teresa (Richard) Turner of Bartlesville, Okla., Marsha Beals of Columbia, Tenn., Cheryl (Greg) Poorman of Oklahoma City, Okla., Carol Edwards of Tulsa, Okla. and Julia (Kevin) Ricke of Bingham, Ill.; 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and children Jeannine Phillips, John Eaton and Roger Baugher.
Virginia was a housewife and worked at Brown Shoe Factory in Sullivan and General Electric and RR Donnelley in Mattoon. She was a member of East Side Church of the Nazarene in Mattoon. Virginia loved selling Sara Coventry Jewelry, Princess House Crystal, and Longaberger Baskets because she met new people and made new friends at every party. Most of all, Virginia enjoyed spending time with her family, especially all of her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations in her honor may be given to East Side Church of the Nazarene.

Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
