Recent Obituaries: Madonna Carnes

Madonna “Joan” (Malloy) Carnes, 82, of Sullivan passed away at 9:58 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2018, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Sullivan.
Joan was born April 24, 1936, in Lovington; the daughter Walter B. Malloy, Sr. and Gladys E. (Ballard) Malloy. She married Don R. Carnes on May 4, 1956 in Sullivan; he survives. Joan was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Sullivan. She enjoyed caring for others, playing cards, but most of all she loved drinking coffee with her family and friends. Joan was fearlessly loyal to her friends and family and loved them all dearly.
Joan is survived by her husband, Don R. Carnes of Sullivan; son, Doug (Angela) Carnes of Sullivan; daughter, Cindy (Bret) Guin of Sullivan; brother, Jack (Mary Ann) Malloy of Sullivan; grandchildren, Morgan (Kenny) Webster, Mackinzey (Kyle) Price, Miles (Holly) McDevitt, Whitney (Zach) Carnes, Ian (Mallory) McDevitt, Cesciley (Matt) Carnes and Jordan Boyer; great-grandchildren, Ruey, Serrell, Emmaline, Esther, Holden, Castle, Mason and Beckhem. She is also survived by many very special friends and her beloved dog Wrigley.
She was preceded in death by her one son, Dennis, parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

Recent Obituaries: Francis E. Harned

Francis E. Harned, 85, of Sullivan passed away at 2:15 p.m. Sunday in Mason Point, Sullivan.
Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Pastor Charliam Renner officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Keller Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials are suggested to Mason Point or to the Moultrie County Relay for Life. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.
Francis was born August 21, 1933 in Lovington the son of Carl and Florence Simpson Harned. He spent many years working as a parts man for the Chevy and GMC dealerships in Decatur. Most recently he had worked for Monarch Manufacturing and then Ace Hardware in Sullivan. Francis enjoyed fixing things for people and helping them in any way that he could. His favorite pastimes were fishing, working in his garden and Friday nights with his friends. Francis married Louanne Ostrowsky on August 19, 1961 in Lovington and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2014.
Surviving are his son Mitchell J. (Beth) Harned of Newman; special friends Clem and Gloria Uptmor of Sullivan and Sheila Dawson of Bethany.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant sister and four brothers.

Linda Lou Thompson, 71, of Sullivan passed away 10:56 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at her home in Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2018, at the Southern Baptist Church in Sullivan. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Zion General Baptist Cemetery, Cooks Mills. In lieu of flowers; memorials may be made to the Southern Baptist Church. McMullin-Young Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
Linda was born December 5, 1947, in Mattoon, the daughter of Howard and Evelyn (Geissinger) Pyle. She married Warren D. Thompson on June 26, 1971 in Mattoon; he preceded her in death on October 19, 2010. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Tina Thompson of Sullivan; sister, Sandy Ford of Ocala, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Harold (Ruty) Eugene Rutan, 85, of Arthur, died at 1:46 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at his residence.
Harold was born February 4, 1933 in Charleston, a son of Clifford and Olive Bryant Rutan. He married Betty Wood in Arthur January 13, 1979, and she survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Dawn (Michael) Moutray of Varna; stepdaughter Lisa (Dick) Agge of Sullivan; grandsons Tyler (Kate) Moutray of Magnolia, Ill., Ryan (Brittney) Moutray of Peru, Ill. and Nicholas (Shaina) Wood of Texas; granddaughters Beth (Ryan) McCann of Imperial, Missouri, Cathryn Agge of Greenwood, Indiana and Megan (Jason) Wood of Edwardsville; great-grandchildren Avery, Morgan, Taylor, Charlotte, Kennedy, Delaney, and Nolan; brother Charles Rutan of Ashmore and sister Vera Hackett of Charleston. Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
