John Casteel

John F. Casteel, 93, of Lovington passed away at 6:36 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in the Anna Veterans’ Home in Anna, Illinois.
Celebration of Life services were noon Saturday in Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with D. J. Smith officiating. Burial was in Keller Cemetery in Lovington with military rites conducted by Lovington American Legion Post #429.
Mr. Casteel was born July 7, 1925 in Moultrie County, a son of Charles W. and Lydia Schuetz Casteel. John was a farmer and had worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation in Sullivan. He was a WWII Army veteran and a member of the Lovington American Legion Post #429. John married Veda M. Bolsen October 12, 1947 in Elwin, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on June 19, 2011. James T. ‘Jim’ Dwyer, 75, of Sullivan passed away at 8:25 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 in his residence.
Celebration of Life Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Charliam Renner officiating.
Jim was born March 7, 1943 in Quincy, the son of James T. Dwyer, Jr. and Margaret Thieman Dwyer. Jim earned his Bachelors in Education from Quincy College and his Masters of Administration from Eastern Illinois University. Jim was a teacher, a football and wrestling coach and an administrator in Quincy, Argenta, Assumption and Sullivan. Jim was a member of Illinois Retired Teachers Association and Sullivan Country Club. He was a member of St. Columcille Catholic Church and attended Sullivan First United Methodist Church. He had delivered Peace Meals for more than 14 years. Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, college football, golf and the Cubs. He married Karen Gamble April 16, 1993 in Sullivan. Michael Paul Smith, 67, of Rantoul died Aug. 11, 2018 in OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana.

James T. ‘Jim’ Dwyer, 75 of Sullivan passed away at 8:25 a.m. Saturday August 11, 2018 in his residence.

Surviving are his wife Karen of Sullivan; son John (Jeanna) Dwyer of Plano, Texas; daughter Lisa (John) Hanning of Gallatin, Tennessee and grandchildren Kelsey (Caten) Hyde, Alec Dwyer, Jordan Dwyer, Jack Hanning and Grant Hanning.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Angie Ward, 83, of Sullivan, passed away 4:10 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Mason Point, Sullivan.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at the First Christian Church, Sullivan. Visitation will be held one hour before the services at the church. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Sullivan. McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, is in care of the arrangements.
Angie was born October 16, 1934, in Mt. Moriah, MO, the daughter of Charles and Wanda (Dimsmore) Adams. She married William Dale Ward on June 5, 1955, in Bethany, MO; he preceded her in death on May 21, 2016. She was a retired school teacher and worked for the American Cancer Society. Angie was a member of the First Christian Church, Sullivan, and sang in the choir for 58 years. She enjoyed playing many types of card games. Angie was dearly loved by her family and she leaves behind many good friends.
Angie is survived by her son, David (Janet) Ward of Hillsboro; daughter, Marsha (Rick) Thornton of Moberly, MO; brother, Arvol (Sharon) Adams of Kansas City, MO; 5 grandchildren, Andrew Ward, Patrick Ward, Rachel Ward Hansen, Caitlyn and Hannah Thornton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery.

John F. Casteel, 93, of Lovington, passed away at 6:36 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in the Anna Veterans’ Home, Anna, Illinois.

Celebration of Life services will be Noon Saturday at the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with D. J. Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - Noon on Saturday. Burial will be in the Keller Cemetery, Lovington with military rites conducted by the Lovington American Legion Post #429. Memorials to Lovington American Legion or Anna Veterans’ Home. Mr. Casteel was born July 7, 1925 in Moultrie County, Illinois, the son of Charles W. And Lydia Schuetz Casteel. Surviving are his sons Ward (Carolyn) Casteel and Berle (Linda) Casteel both of Lovington; grandchildren Lukas (Kim) Casteel of Lovington, Rachel (Dr. Paul, DVM) Marx of Sullivan, Ryan (Brent) Wildman of Sullivan, Brock (Erica) Casteel of Lovington, Derk (Heather) Casteel of Sullivan and Ranee (Robert) Kidd of Sullivan; great-grandchildren Garrett and Tucker Casteel, Brycen Wildman, Morgan and Camden Casteel, Sienna and Avery Casteel and Kolten Kidd; sisters-in-law Bernadine Casteel and Ruenell Casteel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Richard and Charles Casteel, sisters Mildred Brewer, Muriel Harmon, Margorie Eads and Rosemary Wood.

Katherine M. Horn Wood, 77, of Sullivan, passed away May 12, 2018. A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, August 12 from 11 to 2 at the Sullivan Country Club. Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan is in charge of arrangements.
Kathy was born August 7, 1940 in San Jose, California, the daughter of Hermann L. and Alice E. Horn. She graduated from Sunnyvale High School in 1958. She attended the University of Idaho where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and where she met her husband, Steve Wood. They were married June 16, 1962 in Sunnyvale, California. Donald Finch

Donald Finch passed away peacefully in his home in Converse, Tex. Tuesday, July 31, 2018.
He was born in Decatur March 31, 1932.
Donald served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Sasebo, Japan. He also served aboard the flagship USS Mt. McKinley as a Teletype Seaman (TESN). In May 1956 near the Martial Islands in the South Pacific, Don and his shipmates participated in the first hydrogen bomb test to be witnessed by dignitaries and journalists from the deck of the Mt. McKinley.
His greatest loves in life were God, country, family and carpentry. He was faithful to each. Read More

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
