Bernard Miller

Bernard L. Miller, Sr., 73, of Strasburg, passed away 7:25 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 in French Cemetery, Allenville. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Memorials may be made in care of the family.
Bernard was born March 22, 1945 in Decatur, the son of Rufus H. and Mabel M. (Stain) Miller. He married Dorothy L. Daggett on July 28, 1964 in Sullivan; she survives. He was a retired truck driver for LVL Trucking. Bernard was very artistic and a brilliant craftsman who could build anything that he imagined. He loved his family very deeply, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Strasburg; son, Bernard L. (Debbie) Miller, Jr. of Rantoul; daughters, Pamela (Tom) Jennings of Bethany and Linda (Brian) Webner of Leroy. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and his dog Missy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 great-grandson Gabriel Malone.

Joanna Ruth Cole, 84, of Sullivan, passed away peacefully at 12:40 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Mason Point, Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at the First Christian Church, Sullivan. Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral services at the church. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. In lieu of flowers; memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America: 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor New York, NY 10001. McMullin-Young Funeral Home, is in care of the arrangements.
Joanna was born June 19, 1934, in Sullivan, the daughter of James Eugene and Juanita Ruth (Plummer) Chaney. She married Jack Duane Cole on July 29, 1955, in Sullivan; he preceded her in death on February 7, 2007. She received her Registered Nursing Degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Joanna was a Moultrie County Nurse from 1974-1999. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Sullivan.
Joanna is survived by her sons, David (Billy) Cole of Sullivan and Steve (Kelly) Cole of Bethany; brother, Carroll “Sonny” Chaney of Decatur; grandchildren, Joseph Gill, Darla Zelenak, Joshua Cole, Kaci Crafton and Stephanie Cole. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Angie Ward, 83, of Sullivan, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2018 in Mason Point in Sullivan.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, August 15, 2018) in First Christian Church in Sullivan. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan. McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan was in charge of arrangements.
Angie was born October 16, 1934, in Mt. Moriah, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Wanda (Dimsmore) Adams. She married William Dale Ward June 5, 1955 in Bethany, Mo., and he preceded her in death May 21, 2016. She was a retired schoolteacher and worked for the American Cancer Society. Angie was a member of First Christian Church in Sullivan and sang in the choir for 58 years. She enjoyed playing many types of card games. Read More

Mary Ann DeBorde, 60, of Sullivan, passed away at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2018 in her residence.
Celebration of Life services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Reed Funeral Home with Bob Vail officiating. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
Ms DeBorde was born August 23, 1957 in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of Charles and Mary Lyons DeBorde. Mary Ann was a woman of many talents, best described as a domestic goddess, seeker of knowledge, talented writer and artist, devoted mother, lover of animals, and an amazing woman.
Survivors include her daughter Chandra (Caleb) Strowmatt of Champaign; son Chase Arnold of Sullivan; companion Gale Cook and his daughter Katrina Shain; sisters Jeanne (Ross) Vaughn of Sedona, Ariz. and April Madden and Linda Wagner, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; nieces Bridget Klein and Megan Vaughn and nephew Brad Klein. John Casteel

John F. Casteel, 93, of Lovington passed away at 6:36 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in the Anna Veterans’ Home in Anna, Illinois.
Celebration of Life services were noon Saturday in Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with D. J. Smith officiating. Burial was in Keller Cemetery in Lovington with military rites conducted by Lovington American Legion Post #429.
Mr. Casteel was born July 7, 1925 in Moultrie County, a son of Charles W. and Lydia Schuetz Casteel. John was a farmer and had worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation in Sullivan. He was a WWII Army veteran and a member of the Lovington American Legion Post #429. John married Veda M. Bolsen October 12, 1947 in Elwin, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on June 19, 2011. James T. ‘Jim’ Dwyer, 75, of Sullivan passed away at 8:25 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 in his residence.
Celebration of Life Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Charliam Renner officiating.
Jim was born March 7, 1943 in Quincy, the son of James T. Dwyer, Jr. and Margaret Thieman Dwyer. Jim earned his Bachelors in Education from Quincy College and his Masters of Administration from Eastern Illinois University. Jim was a teacher, a football and wrestling coach and an administrator in Quincy, Argenta, Assumption and Sullivan. Jim was a member of Illinois Retired Teachers Association and Sullivan Country Club. He was a member of St. Columcille Catholic Church and attended Sullivan First United Methodist Church. He had delivered Peace Meals for more than 14 years. Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, college football, golf and the Cubs. He married Karen Gamble April 16, 1993 in Sullivan. James T. ‘Jim’ Dwyer, 75 of Sullivan passed away at 8:25 a.m. Saturday August 11, 2018 in his residence.
Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Pastor Charliam Renner officiating. Visitation will be from 9 - 11 a.m. Tuesday. Surviving are his wife Karen of Sullivan; son John (Jeanna) Dwyer of Plano, Texas; daughter Lisa (John) Hanning of Gallatin, Tennessee and grandchildren Kelsey (Caten) Hyde, Alec Dwyer, Jordan Dwyer, Jack Hanning and Grant Hanning.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
