Charles E. “Chuck” Stiles, formerly of Bethany, passed away suddenly from a heart attack on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the age of 58.

A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home located at 1800 Eastland Drive in Bloomington.

After graduation from Bethany High School in 1977, Chuck lived in the Bloomington and Normal, Illinois area while serving his community as a trusted and skilled auto mechanic for nearly four decades. He and his wife Mary were the owners of Stiles’ Automotive in Bloomington. Read More

E. Recile Maycroft, 100, of Sullivan passed away at 2:55 p.m. Sunday March 4, 2018 in Mason Point in Sullivan.

Graveside services were at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Arthur Cemetery with John Plummer officiating. Arrangements were by Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Recile was born April 6, 1917 in Mt. Zion, a daughter of Charles E. and Luda Greenfield Epling. Read More

E. Recile Maycroft, 100, of Sullivan passed away at 2:55 p.m. Sunday March 4, 2018 in Mason Point, Sullivan.

Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Arthur Cemetery with John Plummer officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Mason Point Activity Fund. Arrangements by the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.

Recile was born April 6, 1917 in Mt. Zion the daughter of Charles E. and Luda Greenfield Epling.

She had been a seamstress for Community Industries in Sullivan and a member of the Sullivan First United Methodist Church. She married Marion Maycroft in 1965 in Addison and he preceded her in death in 1983.

Surviving are her daughters Valee (George) Selby and Sandy Hagerman (Dennis Watson) of Sullivan, Cheri Ray of Altamont; step daughter Elenora Mila of Georgia; ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and four brothers.

Beverly M. Alwerdt, 84, of Arthur, passed away 10:50 a.m. Saturday March 3, 2018 in the Arthur Home.

Celebration of Life services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Pastor Grant Wade officiating.  Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.  Memorials are suggested to the Moultrie County Food Pantry or the Sullivan First Christian Church.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.

Mrs. Alwerdt was born May 2, 1933 in Sullivan, IL, the daughter of Samuel B. and Gladys Francis Whitchurch. Bev was a homemaker, member of the Sullivan First Christian Church, had been a member of the Sullivan Women’s Civic Club and the Sullivan Country Club Women’s Golf League.  She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, collecting shells on the beach and golfing with her friends.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family especially watching her grandchildren grow up.   Bev married William ‘Bill’ Alwerdt, DDS on March 15, 1952 in Sullivan and he survives.

Also surviving are her children Janet (Darrel) Gingerich of Arthur and Leslie (Jim) Mossman of Sullivan; grandchildren Lindsey (J.P.) Young, Megan (Bret) Starkey, Tyler Mossman, Seth Gingerich and Lucas Mossman; great-grandchildren Hudson and Duncan Young; sister Nancy Davis of Wichita Falls, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Francis Whitchurch and sister Esther Krows.

Maudie Ruth Trussell, 84, of Sullivan passed away at 10:10 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 in Mason Point in Sullivan.

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Sunday, February 25 in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Maudie was born May 16, 1933, in Tracy City, Tenn., a daughter of Charlie Bradford and Cora Haynes Kilgore Meadows. She was a member of New Life Church. She was a peaceful and happy person who loved her family dearly, and she was loved by all who knew her.  Read More

Maudie Ruth Trussell, 84, of Sullivan passed away 10:10 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 Mason Point, Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2018, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home in Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Maudie was born May 16, 1933, in Tracy City, TN, the daughter of Charlie Bradford and Cora Haynes (KilGore) Meadows. She was a member of the New Life Church. She was a peaceful and happy person who loved her family dearly, and she was loved by all who knew her. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Mason Point for taking such good care of her, she truly felt at home. 

Maudie is survived by her sons, Louis B. (Jennetta) Trussell of Sullivan, Joel L. (Elizabeth) Trussell of Bethany and Randall E. (Kathy) Trussell of Bethany; sister, Rosa Meadows of Tracy City, TN. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents1 son Keith L., 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds.
