Peggy May Gillett, 89, of Sullivan, formerly of Calgary, Alberta, Canada passed away at 12:20 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2016 in Mason Point in Sullivan.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 14 in Allenville Christian Church with Pastor Eddie Miller officiating. Burial will be in Calgary, Alberta May 27, 2017. Arrangements are by Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan. Read More

Donnabelle Frazier, 85, of Sullivan died 12:30 a.m. Wednesday (January 4, 2017) in Mason Point, Sullivan.

Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday following the visitation in the French Cemetery, Allenville, with Bob Vail officiating. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.

Donnabelle was born September 18,1931 in Bruce the daughter of Pearl William and Susie G. Fleming Myers. She had worked at the Illinois Masonic Home as a young woman, spent many years as a homemaker and then managed the IGA Deli in Sullivan for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the Sullivan VFW Auxiliary and the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary. Donnabelle married George W. ‘Pat’ Frazier on September 4, 1954 in LaJolla, California and he preceded her in death on July 24, 1999.

Surviving are her daughter Sue (Dave) Morrow of Gainesville, Florida; son Bill (Lora) Frazier of Sullivan; grandchildren Mandy N. Frazier, Samantha Armer and Gabby Frazier and two great grandchildren Renee and Malia Frazier.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter Gloria Armer.

Myrtle L. Reedy, 91, of Sullivan, passed away at 12:12 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5 in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery in Lovington. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. today (Wednesday January 4) in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Myrtle was born January 6, 1925 in Lovington, a daughter of Frank and Fannie Jane Benton Adkins. She married Donald V. Reedy May 20, 1944 in Sullivan, and he preceded her in death September 3, 2003. She loved painting ceramics and giving them as gifts to her family. Myrtle also enjoyed crocheting and knitting.     Read More

Donald Lee Apke, 80, of Sullivan, passed away at 9:31 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at in Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at10 a.m. today (Wednesday, January 4) in St. Columcille Catholic Church in Sullivan. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery in Lovington. Visitation and a prayer service were held Tuesday in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Donald was born September 8, 1936 in Effingham County, the son of John and Lorraine Vahling Apke. He married Mary Catherine Durbin April 7, 1956, and she preceded him in death. He married Margaret Clayton August 17, 2002, and she survives. Donald was a member of St. Columcille Catholic Church and the Sullivan Kiwanis. Donald worked at Firestone/Bridgestone for 30 years from where he retired. Before working at Firestone he was in the construction business. He loved his horses and his dog Deputy, but his biggest love was spending time with all of his grandchildren and family. Read More

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
