Betty Bryant

Lura Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Bryant, 89, of Mattoon, died at 3:40 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016 in her home.

Memorial services will be at a later date with burial in Keller Cemetery in Lovington. Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bryant was born March 2, 1927 in Monroe County, Kentucky, a daughter of Berry Jackson and Vertie Alma Stinson Doss. Betty had been a waitress and was a member of the Mattoon Eagles, Moose and Eastern Star. Betty loved to play bingo, and her grandchildren lovingly referred to her as ‘Bingo Betty’. She married Roy L. Bryant, and he preceded her in death February 26, 1978. Read More

Ronald David Short, 55, of Sullivan passed away at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2016 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2016 in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with visitation 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan. Read More

Marvin E. Mode, 80, of Sullivan passed away at 8:20 a.m. Sunday, March 20, 2016 in his home in Sullivan.

Bret Alan Krutsinger, 49, of Findlay died Monday March 7, 2016.

Sam Burtcheard

Sampson “Sam” D. Burtcheard, 79, lifelong resident of Sullivan, passed away at 6:30 p.m. March 3 with his wife by his side, ending a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Sam was born June 27, 1936 in Moultrie County, only child of Lilly Burtcheard. He retired from Bridgestone Firestone in Decatur. He married Carol Bailey Adams September 22, 1984. He was a die-hard Cub fan and any other sports that happened to be on TV. He spent his retirement years pursuing his lifelong passion…catfishing. He also loved trapping and hunting. Read More
