Donna M. Newcome, 66, of Bethany, formerly of Assumption, died July 10, 2024 at home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024 in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time.  Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption. Memorials may be made to Casey Williams Foundation.
Donna was born on May 26, 1958 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Bill G. and Marian E. (Cooper) Williams. She married Robert D. Newcome on July 16, 1977 in Assumption, IL. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2022.
Donna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She loved to bake, spend time with her grandchildren, and care for her loved ones. Over the years, she worked in the Sullivan area at Hagen’s Family Pharmacy, in the Moultrie County Clerk’s office and at the Little Theatre on the Square.
Surviving are her daughters: Ashley (Brigham) Hagerman of Sullivan, IL and Haley Ann Becker of Lincoln, IL; grandchildren: Eden Hagerman, Elise Hagerman, and Jayden Cabit; brothers: Michael (Sandra) Williams and Patrick (Kathy) Williams all of Assumption, IL; and sister, Lori (Bob) Hearring of Elwin, IL.
Preceding her in death are her husband and parents.
Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption has been entrusted with the care and service arrangements.  Condolences for the family may be left at www.seitzfh.com.

Ardis E. Shuman, 86, of Sullivan, passed away at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday July 10, 2024 in the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home, Mattoon.

Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 13, 2024 in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Pastor Mike Fender officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Retired Teachers Association or to the United Women in Faith at the Sullivan First United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.
Ardis was born May 11, 1938 in Bloomington, the daughter of Jesse Raymond and Helen Marguerite Benjamin Hill. Ardis graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics in Arthur and then taught fifth grade at Sullivan.  She was a member of the Sullivan First United Methodist Church, the Retired Teachers Association and the Sigma Kappa Sorority. Ardis married Paul E. Shuman on June 25, 1960 in Bloomington and he preceded her in death on February 6, 2021.
Surviving are her son Eric (Lisa) Shuman, grandson Chance and grandaughter April Shuman and fiancé  Brandon Willoughby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, son Scott and brothers Wallace Hill and Roger Hill.

Poppies to honor those who gave all

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
