Thomas Robert Stables, 90, of Bethany, passed away at 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2023, at Fair Haven Christian Home in Decatur.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 31, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Bethany. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 30, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Bethany with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. by George A. Sentel Masonic Lodge #764 Sullivan. Burial will be in Arthur Cemetery in Arthur. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund at George A. Sentel Masonic Lodge #764 Sullivan. Read More

Alfreda A. ``Freddie” Stephens Bone Murphy from Bethany, Illinois, passed from this earth after a prolonged illness on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 88 years of age. Freddie was born on June 30, 1934, and was the only child to her beloved parents, Alfred H.F. and Cervus Alces (Nicholls) Stephens of Walsenburg, Colorado. Not only adored by her parents, Freddie was inspired by a close relationship with her two aunts, Aileen Cunningham and Bertha Stephens. She affectionately and lovingly referred to them as Auntie A and Auntie B. Read More

Billy Joe Robbins, 87, of Bethany, passed away 7:41 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Bethany. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Monday at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Bethany. Burial will be in Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church, rural Bethany.Billy was born February 10, 1936, in Pine Knot, KY, the son of Jesse and Elsie (Anderson) Robbins. He married Arletta McDaniel on August 10, 1954, in Owensboro, KY; she survives. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in rural Bethany. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and riding bicycles.

Billy is survived by his wife, Arletta of Bethany; son, Larry Robbins of Allenville; daughters, Glenda Rigg of Mt. Zion and Cheryl (Mike) Kidwell of Bethany; grandchildren, Michelle (Greg) Owczarzak, Todd (Kristi) Rigg, Nathan (Sara) Robbins, Quinn (Jeremy) Richardson, Laniesa (James) Robbins, Daniel (Lauren) Kidwell, Derick (Kaylee) Robbins, Travis (Deniel) Robbins and Taylor Robbins; brothers, James, Eugene; half-brothers, Steve, Gary (Joan) and Karl (Barbara); step-brother, Kenny (Ruby) Butt; step-sisters, Doris Prater and Betty Clevenger. He is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Billy Joe Robbins, Jr., 6 brothers and 2 sisters.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospice for their wonderful care of Billy.

Helmeth receives Amtryke

River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
