Charles Goss, of Sullivan, Illinois, 94, passed peacefully with family at his bedside Wednesday morning, September 22, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, Illinois. Charles was born January 19, 1927, to Charles E. and Nora (Weaver) Goss, of Nappanee, Indiana. He married Edna Marie (Miller) Goss August 20, 1950. Betty M. Ruff, 95, of Lovington, passed away 12:30 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021, at the Arthur Home.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021, at Keller Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials may be made to the Lovington American Legion Post #429. McMullin-Young Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
Betty was born April 10, 1926, in Cerro Gordo; the daughter of Emmett and Ethel (Allen) Good. She married Cecil L. Ruff on October 22, 1968, in Effingham; he preceded her in death on January 5, 2013. Betty loved playing cards, playing bingo and going out to eat.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Bowman of Melbourne, FL; granddaughter, Lauren Kinert of Lovington; great-grandson, Griffin Hilton of Lovington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil and sister, Lois Wilbur.

Charles Goss, Sullivan, Illinois, age 94, passed peacefully with family at his bedside on Wednesday morning, September 22, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, Illinois. Charles was born January 19,1927, to Charles E. and Nora (Weaver) Goss, of Nappanee, Indiana. He married Edna Marie (Miller) Goss on August 20, 1950. They were married for 68 years until her passing in December 2018. Charles and Edna lived life on their farm, raising 5 children, while instilling a strong work ethic, and teaching them to love the Lord.
Leaving family to cherish his memories are his children Donald Goss (Beverly) of Mattoon, Illinois, Robert Goss’ wife, Karen Klein Goss, Sullivan, Illinois, Lyle Goss (Esther) of Findlay, Illinois, William Lynn (Bill) Goss (Geneva) of Salem, South Dakota, Lori Goss Plank (Jim) of Sullivan, Illinois; 17 grandchildren: Erin Goss of Crestwood, Missouri, Madeleine Goss of Austin, Texas, Charles W. Goss of Abilene, Texas, Broderick Goss of Sullivan, Illinois, Luke Goss (Heidi) of Sullivan, Lisa Goss of Sullivan, Steve Goss (Hannah) of Harrington, Delaware, Brenda Goss Bankes (Aaron) of Medford, Wisconsin, Cheryl Goss Meyer (Tom) of Salem, South Dakota, Melissa Goss Fitzjarrald (Christopher) of Dante, South Dakota, Kimberly Goss of Mattoon, Illinois, Shelbi Plank Swartzentruber (Jeremy) of Arthur, Illinois, Spencer Plank (Tayler) of Bellevue, Nebraska, Micah Plank (Liz) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Magdalen Plank of Nashville, Tennessee, Isaiah Plank and Ian Plank of Sullivan, Illinois.16 great-grandchildren: Sydney Dehart, Elana, Olivia, Liam, Iliana Krutsinger, Allendra Fitzjarrald, Jack Decesaro, Celia, Avery, Oliver, Camille Goss, Lucy Goss, Judah, Gavin, and Paxton Swartzentruber, and Kyson Plank. Siblings: Pearl Chupp, Nappanee, Indiana, Naomi (Wayne) Welty, Nappanee, Indiana, and Melvin (Janice) Goss, Nappanee, Indiana.  Special care given by Sharon Goss.
Welcoming Charles to his heavenly homecoming are his wife Edna, his son Robert Goss, his parents, siblings and their spouses: Willard (Viola) Goss, Fern Goss (Haskell) Yoder, Virginia Goss (Charles) Pletcher, and brother-in-law Carlyle Chupp.
Farm Life brought fulfillment to Charles. His ingenuity was evident in every aspect of their family life on the farm. From tilling the soil, to raising cattle and hogs, to customizing and creating in his Shop—Charles found great satisfaction in making every-day tasks more efficient. In his mind’s eye, he could see a desired outcome and with a cutting torch, a welder, and his innate engineering ability, Charles created hundreds of useful time-saving tools and equipment over the decades.
Charles loved to read and enjoyed engaging conversations with family and friends. He was a life-long learner and faithful follower of Jesus who lived his faith by helping others and giving of his time and his talents.

Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, September 25, at the family farm at 1350 CR 1400 N, Sullivan. A private family service will follow the visitation.  Burial will be in the Sunnyside Mennonite Church Cemetery, Chesterville. Memorials are suggested to the Sunnyside Mennonite Church Rebuilding Fund. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.

Samuel Wesley Frederick, 84, of Sullivan passed away 1:51 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Good Shepard Hospital, Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2021, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, Friday at the funeral home in Sullivan. The family request casual attire. Face masks are suggested and please practice social distancing for the services. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Bethany, with Military Rites by the Sullivan American Legion Post #68. Memorials may be made to the Sullivan VFW
Sam was born December 11, 1936, in Kirksville; the son of M.D. and Edna May (Matheson) Frederick. He served in the United States Army. Sam married Wilma Kay Armstrong on November 4, 1988, in Sullivan; she preceded him in death on April 27, 2014. He attended the Oak Grove Baptist Church in rural Bethany and was a member of the Sullivan VFW and Sullivan American Legion Post #68. Sam enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and butchering.
He is survived by his son, Wesley Dean (Christy Ann) Frederick of Arthur; step-sons, Steve Miller and Doug Miller; brother, Jake (Shirley) Frederick of Mattoon; sisters, Beverly Bolsen of Mattoon and Pearl Hudson of Mattoon. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 9 brothers and sisters.
