Opening Symphony at Kirkland Fine Arts Center Saturday

The Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra (MDSO) will present its opening night concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, in Kirkland Fine Arts Center.
The concert will feature performances of Janáček’s “On an Overgrown Path” and Bloch’s “Concerto Grosso.” Following an intermission, the MDSO will perform Mahler’s “Symphony No. 4” featuring soloists Georgia Hornbacker on violin, Millikin professor of music, and Andrea Frakes Pope ‘97, a mezzo-soprano.
Andrea Frakes Pope has performed as a recitalist and soloist throughout central Illinois as well as the Kansas City and Washington, D.C. areas. She has performed with the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra, the Summer Sings Recital Series at the Cathedral (Kansas City, Mo.) and Hillside Arts Fellowship Concert Series.
