Charles Goss
Charles Goss, Sullivan, Illinois, age 94, passed peacefully with family at his bedside on Wednesday morning, September 22, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, Illinois. Charles was born January 19,1927, to Charles E. and Nora (Weaver) Goss, of Nappanee, Indiana. He married Edna Marie (Miller) Goss on August 20, 1950. They were married for 68 years until her passing in December 2018. Charles and Edna lived life on their farm, raising 5 children, while instilling a strong work ethic, and teaching them to love the Lord.
Leaving family to cherish his memories are his children Donald Goss (Beverly) of Mattoon, Illinois, Robert Goss’ wife, Karen Klein Goss, Sullivan, Illinois, Lyle Goss (Esther) of Findlay, Illinois, William Lynn (Bill) Goss (Geneva) of Salem, South Dakota, Lori Goss Plank (Jim) of Sullivan, Illinois; 17 grandchildren: Erin Goss of Crestwood, Missouri, Madeleine Goss of Austin, Texas, Charles W. Welcoming Charles to his heavenly homecoming are his wife Edna, his son Robert Goss, his parents, siblings and their spouses: Willard (Viola) Goss, Fern Goss (Haskell) Yoder, Virginia Goss (Charles) Pletcher, and brother-in-law Carlyle Chupp.
Farm Life brought fulfillment to Charles. His ingenuity was evident in every aspect of their family life on the farm. From tilling the soil, to raising cattle and hogs, to customizing and creating in his Shop—Charles found great satisfaction in making every-day tasks more efficient. In his mind’s eye, he could see a desired outcome and with a cutting torch, a welder, and his innate engineering ability, Charles created hundreds of useful time-saving tools and equipment over the decades.
Charles loved to read and enjoyed engaging conversations with family and friends. He was a life-long learner and faithful follower of Jesus who lived his faith by helping others and giving of his time and his talents.
Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, September 25, at the family farm at 1350 CR 1400 N, Sullivan. A private family service will follow the visitation. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Mennonite Church Cemetery, Chesterville. Memorials are suggested to the Sunnyside Mennonite Church Rebuilding Fund.
