Myrta Clare Pound
Myrta Clare Pound, 86, of Decatur passed away 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at her home in Decatur.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Sullivan. Burial will be in Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany. Myrta was born September 5, 1931, in Bethany, the daughter of William and Catherine (Sibley) Scott. She married Merrill E. Pound on January 19, 1950, in Sullivan; he preceded her in death on November 3, 2014. She worked as the Secretary Treasurer for Burdick Plumbing and Heating for 45 years, after she retired from there, she became the Owner/Operator of Clare’s Family Restaurant in Decatur. Myrta was a member of the Resurrection Life Church in Decatur and the American Business Women’s Association. She was a Sunday School Teacher and past President of the PTA at Lakeview High School.
She is survived by her son, Michael A. Pound of Decatur; daughter, Debra C. (David J.) Rathje of Decatur; sisters, Glendola Trimbley of Sullivan, Lila Brown of Bethany and Janey Dennis of Mattoon. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren,1 great-great-grandchild and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sons Roger and Keith Pound, 2 grandsons, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
The family would like to give a special thanks to, her former doctor, Dr. Scott Sieberg, Naomi, Sharon and Felicia for the excellent care they gave to Myrta. Also, a special thanks to her many wonderful friends for their love and compassion.
