Sullivan High School opens walking track in November

•October 29, 2025• Starting November 3rd, Sullivan Schools will be opening the indoor walking track at Sullivan High School’s new gymnasium to the public (when available) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. Community members may enter through the Unit Office doors, and the track is located on the second floor of the high school gym. Mrs. Rita Florey has volunteered to supervise during these times. The track will be closed on the following scheduled M-W-F dates: November 12th, 19th, 26th, and 28th.  … Read More

River Ferries •October 29, 2025• by Janet Roney Crossing rivers was a huge problem for the early pioneers and Native Americans who came before them. Rivers acted as barriers between developing communities. It took some effort for neighborhoods on opposite sides of the rivers to mix. (Our modern Lake Shelbyville acts like a barrier today because only three bridges span the lake in thirty or forty miles.) The Indians worked out a system for crossing rivers in central Illinois. 2015 When Brianna Mahon graduated from Sullivan High School in 2008, her need for speed had already taken over the teenage honor student’s life. Professional MotoCross racing dominated her weekends then, but today she’s getting into bigger machines. Mild-mannered hairdresser by day, and on the weekends, she gets behind the wheel of the monster Jam Truck Scooby Doo in nationwide events. Landmark torn down



News Progress


The home at the intersection of Route 133 and Route 32 in Lovington was torn down last week. The house had become a major hazard after a box truck struck it, taking out a large portion of the north wall. The owners had the home demolished after it was deemed a public safety issue.
