Wallen Scores 1000th Career Point at Knights Classic

•January 3, 2018• By Jason Brown NP Sports The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond girls’ basketball team placed second in the Knights Classic Holiday Tournament this past week, and senior Knight Hannah Wallen scored her 1,000th career point against Cumberland Friday. During the Knights Classic Holiday Tournament, ALAH defeated Cumberland and Chrisman to reach the championship game against Decatur St. Teresa. In the championship game, though, the Knights lost to the Bulldogs 65-61. St. Teresa jumped out to a 13-7 first-quarter lead and took a 32-23 lead at the half. •January 3, 2018• In July 2017 when the temperature was pushing 100 degrees Rose, ridden by Daniel Yoder of Cadwell ,won the first Belgian Draft Horse race in the world at the Illinois Amish Heritage Center, Chesterville. •January 3, 2018• By Jason Brown NP Sports The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team finished 3-1 in the Tri-County Christmas Tournament Kansas this past week. The Knights defeated Westville, Windsor-Stewardson Strasburg and Hutsonville/Palestine but lost to Paris. “The tournament went very well for us, and we learned quite a bit about ourselves and made quite a bit of improvement over the course of the tourney,” said ALAH coach Dale Schuring. “We handled adversity very well.” Against WWS, ALAH doubled its lead in the first quarter 12-6, but Windsor came back with a 24-10 run in the second quarter for a 32-22 … Read More

Continued from our December 27, 2017 edition •January 3, 2018• May 31, 2017 Sullivan city is receiving a $445,980 block grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The grants are designed to stabilize neighborhoods and provide affordable housing. Susan Rauch, Joe Keller, Dave Cole, Bill Highland, Dan Fultz and Brad Pullen plant the first tree donated by Sullivan Rotary to the Habitat subdivision in Sullivan. •January 3, 2018• Even as a kid when Larry Edwards heard sirens it made him curious. “I wanted to be able to find out what was going on,” Sullivan Assistant Fire Chief Larry Edwards recalled his reason for becoming a firefighter. On December 18, 2017 Sullivan Fire District Captain Larry Edwards was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief, next in command to Chief Mike Piper, by the Sullivan Fire Protection District board of trustees. OV was in Pool A with Christ Our Rock, Cowden Herrick-Beecher City and Newton. In the tournament the Timberwolves defeated Christ Our Rock Lutheran, Cowden Herrick-Beecher City and Arcola but lost to Newton. To take third place, OV defeated Arcola last Thursday.
