•May 31, 2017• Sullivan City Council met in special session Thursday, May 22 approving an HMO employee health insurance option with CF&H Insurance of Sullivan as agent of record, replacing Wells Fargo. City Administrator Dan Flannell reported options to city council for repairing the existing city tennis courts. Motion was made by Mike Mossman to continue with the original $18,560 bid to repair cracks and resurface. Flannell noted the contractor explained the condition of the existing surface would see a recurrence of cracking within five years. •May 31, 2017• Jeff Lane of Sullivan recently celebrated his 35th service anniversary with LSC Communications. Lane was hired in 1982 as an apprentice preliminary technician and became a journeyman in 1984. He was promoted to Advanced Craft Preliminary Craftsman in 1985 and then became MMP Preliminary Specialist in 1997. He is currently Prelim/Prepress Operator II. •May 31, 2017• Illinois Senate Republicans officially opened their third annual Memorial Day Wall of Remembrance display in the state Capitol Rotunda on Tuesday. Joining Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno in opening the display was Gov. Sullivan Twp Upgrades Cemeteries

•May 31, 2017• Sullivan Township cemeteries’ records have been updated and are now accessible through the Gravediscover website. Last year the Sullivan Township Cemetery board of trustees decided to transfer cemetery records to a computer based program. All the original records were kept on paper with trustees worried that if those were destroyed, there would be nothing to go by. With the cemetery having no full time employees it has taken about a year to get everything entered. At this time everything is entered based on those original records. Soil Temperatures are Rising Across Illinois

•May 31, 2017• After a cool beginning of the month, soil temperatures are rising throughout the state in mid-May, according to Jennie Atkins, Water and Atmospheric Resources Monitoring (WARM) Program manager at the Illinois State Water Survey, Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois. Soil temperatures at depths of 4 inches under sod averaged 67.5 degrees in Illinois on May 15, 5 degrees higher than the long-term average. Daily highs were in the 60s and 70s for most of the state.
