The Sullivan High School boys’ basketball team is scheduled to host the Harlem Wizards for an exhibition fundraiser game against Sullivan teachers, coaches and community members from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, January 14. Employer Withholding Tax Changes Increase Accuracy

•January 11, 2017• In an effort to reduce taxpayer filing and payment errors and increase the detection of false income reporting and insolvent employers, the Illinois Department of Revenue (“IDOR”) will begin requiring all withholding taxpayers to file quarterly withholding income tax returns and report detailed payroll data beginning in 2017. The change impacts employers, payroll service providers, software developers and individuals who pay gambling and lottery winnings. IDOR believes the detailed reporting of amounts and dates of any tax withheld under the new quarterly filing will make it easier and more accurate for withholding filers. … Read More

Moultrie County Jail Serves Big Savings

•January 11, 2017• Moultrie County jail inmates are eating better in 2017 while saving taxpayer dollars at the same time. Moultrie County sheriff Chris Sims started in house food service at the jail that could save $30,000 in annual food service costs for the jail’s inmate population. “Meal costs from outside vendors was running about $3.50 each, and we had a difficult time coordinating deliveries so inmates received warm food,” chief deputy Gary Carroll said of the outside caterers who had served the population in the past. “Housing inmates for federal marshals created complaints about portions and quality,” Sheriff Sims … Read More

He is the son of Dennis and Mary Hutchings and plans to major in biology or chemistry for pre medicine at MacMurray. Several area students are among the nearly 50 candidates for degrees or certificates upon completion of the fall term at Lake Land College.
