Sullivan Schools hosts open house for Alumni •October 5, 2016• In 1916, the building currently serving as Sullivan Middle School was erected. To celebrate the 100 years of this building’s operation as part of the Sullivan School District, there will be an Alumni Open House 5-5:45 p.m. Saturday, October 8 as a precursor to the annual alumni banquet at the VFW. IDNR Campsite Reservations Open for Solar Eclipse Zone

•October 5, 2016• The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) announced today that campsite reservations are now available at southern Illinois State Parks and the World Shooting and Recreational Complex for visitors making plans to view the total solar eclipse on Aug. 21, 2017. Reservations can be made for dates within the window of Aug. 14 – 27, 2017. IDNR sites normally can be reserved no more than six months in advance. Sullivan Middle Schooler Plays Ball at Sloan Field

•October 5, 2016• Sullivan middle school student Dominick Kimberlin plays in the Junior All American games at the Chicago Cubs training camp in Mesa, Ariz. this weekend. Kimberlin, who plays first base, received his invitation to play, along with hundreds of other student baseball players from 16 states and Canada, during a Game Day USA event last summer. Dominick was playing with the Central Illinois Heat of Mattooon in the Game Day event in Champaign. The team was second place in the tournament, and Kimberlin was handed an MVP card and asked to participate in the  Junior All American Games. … Read More

New Director for Sullivan’s Mid-Illinois Senior Services

Nolen For the News Progress The board of members at the Mid-Illinois Senior Services and Community Center chose Kathi Shackles to be the new director, after 12 years of employment at the center. “I was excited and honored to be chosen,” Shackles said. The senior center offers advocacy for seniors, Medicare/Medicaid counseling, legal aid, transportation, and is also a site for Peace Meals hosted by Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
