•August 31, 2016• Sullivan golfer Caden Ellis was medalist shooting a 34 at the Meridian hosted quad meet at held at Moweaqua Golf Course Aug. 25. The Arcola-ALAH Golf team won the match with a 168 team goal, beating the Sullivan team’s 172 effort. Shelbyville was third, shooting a 194 followed by Meridian’s 197. •August 31, 2016• Sullivan Okaw Valley cross country team won the quad meet held at Tabor Park Aug 25. SOV runners were first with a 54 followed by the ALAH coop in second with a 58. Moultrie County Employment Rate Improves

•August 31, 2016• Moultrie County has the lowest July unemployment rate in the area, reporting  4.4% in 2016, down from 4.7% in July 2015. Moultrie’s drop was less than surrounding counties at 0.3%, with Douglas County reporting 4.5% unemployed, 0.6% better than 5.1% in 2015. Shelby County’s rate improved by 0.8% to 5.5%, down from 6.3% in July 2015. Saturday Crash Claims Life

•August 31, 2016• Tucker M. Schwengel, 21, died as the result of a 1 a.m. August 27 single vehicle crash on the Clarksburg blacktop. Schwengel,a Shelbyville High School football standout who was attending Millikin University,  was buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville following August 29 services in Shelby Christian Church. He was the son of Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond superintendent of schools Kenneth and Stephanie (Chesnut) Schwengel of Arthur. Two sisters, Alex of Shelbyville and Daley of Arthur survive, along with grandparents. •August 31, 2016• C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation, Board of Directors recently awarded $8,000 in educational scholarships to nine individuals who are pursuing post-secondary education. The educational scholarships were made available through funding provided by the Community Services Block Grant Program from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. C.E.F.S.
