On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. They competed in multiple events and enjoyed a wonderfully sunny late afternoon. American Legion fire trucks are restored antique or modified fire engines owned by local Legion posts, serving as powerful symbols of community connection, veteran camaraderie, and patriotic service. 2016 The 4th Grade Wax Museum at Sullivan Elementary School displayed a mix of pop culture and history. Students in the three 4th-grade classes of Kurt Freise, Drew Campbell, and Kay Lehman spent the past two months learning about characters from history and pop culture. Inside the elementary school gymnasium, those students became the characters they were studying. The ALAH Knight softball team, under head coach Jerry Lane, ended the season with a 14-10 record, following regional tournament play at Catlin-Salt Creek.
