SHS Scholastic Bowl Team shines

•April 2, 2025• Combining brain power and teamwork, the Sullivan High School Scholastic Bowl Team’s competitive season comes to a successful end. Scholastic Bowl is a fast-paced, quiz-based competition where teams of five students from different schools compete by answering trivia questions on a variety of academic subjects. The team that correctly answers a toss-up gets control of the bonus set. There are 24 toss-ups in each match, and each bonus set has three questions. SBL Cheers! raises $30,000 in support of scholarships

Scholarships for students in 10-county region Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation raised nearly $30,000 at the 41st annual Cheers! event to support the SBL Volunteer Guild Scholarship Program. Cheers!, a high-energy cocktail party, was held March 1st at the Foxmore in Shelbyville featuring the band 8South to nearly 300 in attendance. The event also hosted a Texas Hold‘em style Poker Tournament which had 31 participants. Lake Land College offering new format for HVAC courses

Last Thursday, Lady Redskin Addison Minor, with her family signed her letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Illinois College. $10 billion in economic aid available

by Tammie SloupFarmWeek Applications are open for a piece of $10 billion in economic assistance available through a new USDA program. The Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP) provides payments to help farmers mitigate high input costs and low commodity prices from the 2024 crop year. Authorized by the American Relief Act of 2025, payments are based on planted and prevented planted crop acres for eligible commodities. To streamline the process, Farm Service Agency (FSA) will begin sending pre-filled applications to farmers who submitted acreage reports to FSA for 2024 eligible ECAP commodities. On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
