Serve Illinois Encourages Mayors and County Executives to Help Recognize National Service

•March 30, 2016• More than 3,000 participating officials will mark April 5 as the Mayors and County Recognition Day for National Service. As of the date of this release, 98 mayors and county executives in Illinois have signed on to participate. On April 5 mayors and county executives will hold public events and use traditional and social media to highlight the value of national service to the nation’s cities. Last year, 2,786 mayor and county officials representing more than 150 million citizens in all 50 states participated in the third-annual Mayors and County Recognition Day for National Service. Eastern Illinois Foodbank Foodmobile Distribution at VFW

•March 30, 2016• Camp Farm Management and Eastern Illinois Foodbank are teaming up to distribute a truckload of food from the Eastern Illinois Foodbank to hungry area families. The distribution will be held at Sullivan VFW located at 1146 State Highway 32 in Sullivan 10-11:30 a.m. April 16. All Moultrie County residents who meet income eligibility criteria are welcome. Those attending are asked to bring bags or boxes to transport food. Lincoln and His Times Come to Effingham

•March 30, 2016• The Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum Association (ECCCMA) and Lake Land College are once again partnering to offer the second annual Celebration of Lincoln and His Times. The program topic this year will be “The Election of 1860”. The presentation will take place on the second floor of the Effingham County Courthouse Museum at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14. Inurnment will be held at a later date. David was born April 8, 1976 in Urbana, the son of Chuck Magos and Helen McKee Gillespie. He married Andrea Marie Hopper July 8, 2003 in Sullivan, and she survives. He was employed with Wood Specialties and previously for Wright Tree Services. Sullivan Baseball Beats Heritage Hawks at Home

•March 30, 2016• Sullivan Redskins baseball team topped the Heritage Hawks 4-3 in Sullivan action March 23. Tom Schibur was the winning pitcher for Sullivan varsity allowing three earned runs and throwing 10 strikeouts in seven innings. Alec Ballinger scored one run, getting two hits in four at bats. Brett Tuttle had two hits and  two runs in four trips to the plate. He was left on base twice. Zach Hrvol had two at bats and was walked twice, getting left on base one time. Yost Defense Takes a Twist

Flannell granted Michael Yost until April 4 to produce evidence that involuntary intoxication be a reasonable defense in the death of Sheri Randall on March 4, 2015. Yost, 41,  appeared in Moultrie County Circuit Court March 29 with public defender Brad Rau requesting expert witness expenses. This is to help prove Yost’s diabetes condition combined with alcohol contributed to his amnesia.
