Patricia Horath Patricia J. Horath, 65, of Sullivan passed away at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2016 in Sullivan Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 18 in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with visitation 5-7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in French Cemetery in Sullivan. Patricia was born November 15, 1950 in Decatur, a daughter of Vernon E. and Evelyn M. McElravy Jack. She married Tommy J. County Board Increases Sheriff’s Service Fees

•March 16, 2016• The Moultrie County Board updated sheriff’s fees and learned of changes with Central Illinois Public Transit at the Thursday, March 10 meeting. Coles County Regional Planning and Development commission conducted a study of the Sherfiff’s Department fee schedule which revealed some fees needed to be increased to cover actual costs. That study showed the $85,561.79 in fees now generated could increase to  $96,466.29 in annual fee revenue for the county. Busy Election Day in Moultrie County

•March 16, 2016• Good voter turnout combined with new election equipment kept the Moultrie Country Clerk’s office pretty busy March 15. County Clerk Georgia England noted the 410 absentee ballots voted in the general primary election broke recent records for primary elections, indicating voter interest in 2016. New voting equipment prompted constant attention from Liberty Systems personnel as well as Election Deputy Jamie Helton and the election support staff as they fielded precinct issues throughout election day. Nancy Voyles Nancy Jane Tippitt Voyles, 93, of Findlay, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday morning March 13, 2016-her birthday in her residence. Tractor Blessing Bethany Church

Yost Fit to be Tried for Randall Murder

•March 16, 2016• Michael S. Yost’s lack of memory from the night Sheri Randall was killed wasn’t enough to keep the Honorable Judge Dan L. Flannell from determining he was fit for trial during a March 15 hearing. Yost, 41, is charged with four counts of murder in connection with the death of Randall at her Graham St. apartment in Sullivan March 4, 2015. Dr. Lawrence Jeckel, forensic psychiatrist of Champaign, agreed Yost could have no memory of the night during testimony at the Moultrie County Courthouse. “He is fit to stand trial,” Dr. Jeckel told Public Defender David Rau. … Read More

Sam Burtcheard Sampson “Sam” D. Burtcheard, 79, lifelong resident of Sullivan, passed away at 6:30 p.m. March 3 with his wife by his side, ending a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Sam was born June 27, 1936 in Moultrie County, only child of Lilly Burtcheard. He retired from Bridgestone Firestone in Decatur. He married Carol Bailey Adams September 22, 1984. He was a die-hard Cub fan and any other sports that happened to be on TV. He spent his retirement years pursuing his lifelong passion…catfishing. He also loved trapping and hunting. … Read More

Ammonia Distribution Terminal Planned in County

•March 16, 2016• A project by Archer Daniels Midland is underway to pipe anhydrous ammonia from New Orleans area production facilities to Decatur and a distribution terminal in Dalton City. The Moultrie County Board heard a report from NuStar who operates the pipeline intended for the extension in to Moultrie and Macon counties. State Denied Federal Flood Assistance

•March 16, 2016• The state of Illinois was notified today that its request for federal assistance to help people, businesses and local governments in several Illinois counties recover from flooding has been denied. In a letter notifying the state of the denial, FEMA Administrator W. Craig Fugate said the damage from the floods and severe storms “was not of such severity and magnitude as to be beyond the capabilities of the state, affected local governments, and voluntary agencies.” On Feb. 26 the state submitted a request for two types of federal assistance: Individual Assistance to help people and businesses recover … Read More
