Loren Jenne Loren E. “Colonel” Jenne, 98, of Springfield, passed away at 8:15 am Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in the Regency in Springfield. Loren was born Sept. 5, 1917 near Cadwell to Charles and Ella Collins Jenne. He moved with his family to Sullivan where he graduated from high school in 1935. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a B.S. in Education in 1940 and began his teaching profession in Alvin, Ill. This was interrupted by W.W. II when he was drafted in June 1941. Sullivan & Lovington Hold District Spelling Bees

On to County •February 3, 2016• The 2016 Sullivan School District Spelling Bee was held Wednesday January 27 in the Sullivan High School Commons. Students in grades 4-8 earned the privilege of representing their grade level at this spelling bee. The six winners and two alternates who are moving on to the Moultrie County bee are Lara Herschberger (5th), Zachary Kursell (5th), Aastha Patel (6th), Alyssa Thompson (6th), Reagan Crouse (7th) and Brett Johnson (7th) The alternates are Maggie McLaughlin (8th) and Zoe Walton (7th). … Read More

Vernon, played by Jona Workman, is the new kid in school. Frequently moving makes him feel more invisible with each new school. Help Food Pantry Feed People •February 3, 2016• WAND TV’s 3 Degree Guarantee is getting better and better for the Moultrie County Food Pantry. Kristy Dawson, Moultrie Food Pantry director, reported a total of $950 was reached by the end of the month from the challenge for the Food Pantry. Presentation will be made during the WAND -TV 6 p.m. newscast Wednesday, February 3 by the station and co-sponsor IBEW Local 146. Bob Shackles Robert F. “Bob” Shackles, 76, of Sullivan passed away Saturday Jan. 30, 2016 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. Bob was born April 25, 1939 in Plainview to William Franklin and Nora Schwenke Shackles. He graduated from Southwestern High School in Piasa and went on to serve four years in the Marines. After his military service, he worked several years as a mechanic and then spent the rest of his working life at the light plant in Sullivan until he was disabled in 1992. … Read More

ALAH Knights Bring Home a Win

•February 3, 2016• The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights didn’t have a problem traveling to Decatur LSA and winning 51-40 February 1. It was a 10-9 LSA Lion first quarter. By the second the Knights scored 13-10 for a 22-20 first half lead. The third quarter was evenly paced with an eight point tie. The Knights came alive in the fourth quarter outscoring LSA 21-12 for the 51-40 win. Hannah Wallen led the Knight effort, supplying three three’s, four field goals and three free shots for 20 points.  … Read More
