Crash in the Front Leads PO Customers Back

•December 2, 2015• The front door of the Sullivan Post Office was crashed on November 24 and access to the front lobby limited since. Postmaster Cindy Temple is sorry for the inconvenience to the public and then explained repairs should be complete this week. “We recommended a Champaign contractor to the building owners in Chicago,” Temple said of the procedure to get the door repaired. “They are set to start work on the door and frame Wednesday (Dec. 2).” Until then customers seeking lobby access will continue to ring the bell on the loading dock. •December 2, 2015• The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is joining Illinois State Police (ISP) and local law enforcement agencies to remind motorists to buckle up and drive sober during one of the heaviest travel periods of the year. With one of the biggest party nights of the year on Wednesday and more people on the roads through Sunday, police throughout the state are stepping up their enforcement of seat belt law violators and impaired drivers during the long holiday weekend. Sign up Time for Master Gardener Training

•December 2, 2015• It turns out that Master Gardeners are made, not born – and your opportunity to become a University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener volunteer begins in January. Applications are now being accepted for the Master Gardener training program, which starts Tuesday, Jan. 26 at the Coles County Extension Office in Charleston. The weekly training sessions, held on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will continue through April 12. Santa Visits Legion After Parade

Following the Petersen Health Care sponsored Hometown Holiday’s Christmas Parade at noon, Santa Claus will be ready to hear children’s Christmas gift wishes at the Sullivan American Legion Post 68. Redskins Open Season with Road Win

•December 2, 2015• Sullivan boys’ basketball team traveled to Arthur Nov 24 winning 48-32 over the Knights. The Redskins led off the first quarter 15-9, scoring 8-9 in the second quarter to head into the half ahead 24-17. Sullivan outscored the Knights again in the third 10-4 and 14-11 in the fourth for the 48-32 total. Sullivan shot 50 percent from the field hitting 20-40. They made 5-7 three point shots for 29 percent and the Redskins were 3-9 from the free stripe for 33 percent. The most valuable player award went to senior Jason Yeakel, who also received the tackle award. Seniors Darren Powell and Brad Warrior were named honorary captains, and the “most improved Knight” was Shane Webb. Quarterback Ryan Schultz received the spirit award. Santa Claus Visits Lake

•December 2, 2015• Santa Claus is coming to town on Saturday, December 12 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center.
