Box City Supports Hunger and Homelessness Awareness

•November 11, 2015• Millikin University’s Human Service Connection and the Macon County Continuum of Care will host its annual Box City event in support of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13. The event is part of Millikin’s #END Campaign to help bring hunger and homelessness awareness to the local community. Lovington man found guilty

•November 11, 2015• Larry D. Smith, 66, of Lovington was found guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child in Moultrie County court on November 4. Smith was arrested October 28, 2014 with the jury trial presided over by Judge Dan L. Flannell. Smith was represented by Philip Tibbs with Jeremy Richey prosecuting for Moultrie County. Property Tax Relief for Disabled Veterans in Moultrie County

•November 11, 2015• Additional property tax relief is now available for veterans with disabilities and their families. The Moultrie County Chief County Assessment Officer is announcing the following exemption changes and additions to the Illinois Property Tax Code. Beginning Tax Year 2015 (tax bills paid in 2016), changes to the Standard Homestead Exemption for Veterans With Disabilities will significantly increase the exemption benefit for a veteran with a service-connected disability of at least 30% or greater as certified by the United States Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Roofs and HVAC systems needed •November 11, 2015• By Mike Brothers Facing a little more than $5 million in needed HVAC upgrading and roof repairs Sullivan Community Unit 300 board members explored funding options at the regular Monday, Nov. 9 meeting. Tim King of King Financial Consultants presented some options utilizing  health life safety bonds. Lake Land College Foundation Funds Adult Ed Programs

•November 11, 2015• The Lake Land College Foundation Board of Directors recently held its annual meeting and celebrated raising $371,544 in annual funds and awarding nearly $287,678 in total scholarships to Lake Land College students for the 2014-2015 academic year. The addition of last year’s funding effort puts the Lake Land College Foundation’s total assets at $10.8 million. The board has set a fundraising goal of $430,000 in annual funds for the current fiscal year. Ahead of Schedule •November 11, 2015• By Mike Brothers Moultrie County Public Health and Safety committee met November 4 with chair Arlene Aschermann leading discussion on the E 911 system, which is at the stage where individual mapping addresses for municipalities are entered. The committee toured the Charleston 911 communication headquarters last month receiving an update on completion in the cooperative Moultrie-Coles County emergency system.
