Knights Volleyball Gets Close to Broncos

•October 21, 2015• The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights volleyball team hosted Cerro Gordo Thursday, Oct 15 with the Bronco team winning two close games, 25-23 and 25-23. Knights varsity record is 11-12 and 2-3 in conference play. Maykala Brown had one assist; Chelsey Chupp one assist; Hannah Leal one dig and Kalli Martin one assist. Should that concern us? Why else would this highly respected magazine have carried a story about it? The problem is that the 9,000 tons of radioactive nuclear waste stored, supposedly temporarily, at reactor sites across our state has no place to go. Omer Helmuth Funeral services for Omer D. Helmuth, 75, of Arthur were held at 9 a.m. Monday in HCK West Building in Arthur. Burial was in Otto Cemetery in Arthur. He died at 11:44 a.m. Friday Oct. 16, 2015 in Chesterville. Omer D. Helmuth was born Feb. 16, 1940, a son of David J. and Magdalena Bontrager Helmuth. He married Irma J. Moultrie County Gives State A Helping Hand

In Eagle Creek Resort Revival  •October 21, 2015• By Mike Brothers Moultrie County took steps to kick start attempts to revive Eagle Creek Resort at the regular meeting Thursday, October 15. Finance and budget chair Ron White proposed that an additional $50,000 be placed in the current budget’s contingency fund, which was approved unanimously. County board chairman Dave McCabe explained the purpose of the transfer. Moultrie and Shelby county governments working with the Illinois Department of Nature Resources have an engineering study under way to determine feasibility of reopening Eagle Creek. Competing at the meet were Lily Bales, Michaela Donnel, Natalie Drury, McKenna Kull, Cadisen Nuzzo, Allison Oligschlaeger, Brynna Sentel and Anna Wooters. Sullivan Pursues New Debt Collection Program

SS Numbers Track Those Who Owe •October 21, 2015• By Mike Brothers For years the city of Sullivan’s collections for unpaid utilities were an iffy process; so the city council is trying Local Debt Recovery through the Illinois Comptroller’s office. The intergovernmental agreement was approved unanimously by city council at the Monday, October 12 meeting. “As a municipality we can send past utility bills, ordinance violations and even past due parking tickets to Local Debt Recovery, and they take care of collections,” city treasurer Sarah Golden said of the new program.
