Dates and themes are October 8 -“Fire Safety”, October 15-“Squirrels & Nuts”, October 22-“Scarecrows” and October 29-“Pumpkins”. Reading Redbirds Book Club – Youth in 4th-8th grades are invited to bring a favorite book to discuss for “Reading Redbirds Book Club”. Dates are 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday October 6 and October 20. EIU AD Impacting Student Athletes with Integrity

•October 7, 2015• By Nick Fiala Reporting in Sullivan The Sullivan Rotary Club, located at TNT’s, was recently visited by Eastern Illinois University’s sophomore athletic director Tom Michael. Michael explained how he has approached his new responsibilities based on his roots and personal values. “I grew up in southern Illinois, 12 miles east of Carlyle.” Michael said. “Those small town values I think are important.The work ethic and the dedication, the respect, the trust, the integrity, and loyalty were certainly formed back then. Compiled by Bekki Ferguson-Stevens 25 Years Ago This Week All four Redskin harriers turned in personal bests during the St. Joseph-Ogden Invitational Cross Country meet last Saturday. Sophomore Katie Tice led Sullivan with a 13th place finish and a time of 12:30. Kristy Jesse completed the course with a time of 13:05. Her run was good enough for 33rd place. Also competing were freshmen Emily Patrick and Brandie Riley who finished 106th and 114th respectively. This year’s recipient of the Who’s Who award at Sullivan High School has retired in his hometown after a career with the American Fly Ash Corp. … Read More

A Strong Start Faded for Sullivan

•October 7, 2015• When Sullivan’s volleyball team hosted St. Teresa October 1, the team came out strong in the first game winning 25-23, then came up short the other two games 17-25 and 7-25. “The Redskins provided some hard-fought volleys as a team,” coach Krista Smith said. “The team unity keeps getting stronger and stronger.” Coach Smith noted that Abby Elzy  provided excellent sets with Seleste Smith, Alyssa Marshall and Lizzie Green coming up with good defensive digs. •October 7, 2015• Okaw Valley hosted Decatur Lutheran School Association in volleyball October 1 winning one game 25-21, then going on to lose the next two in the match 21-25 and 12-25. The team record is 9-8 for the season. Kristy Burford had two kills, one ace, one pass return and six digs; Kailyn Boyer had three kills, four aces and four digs; Madison Fox led the team with seven kills, two aces, two digs and one block shot. … Read More
