EASTERN ILLINOIS FOODBANK ANNOUNCES “FOODMOBILE” FOOD GIVEAWAY IN Sullivan, IL

•October 1, 2015• Sullivan – Eastern Illinois Foodbank will distribute a truckload of food to hungry area families.  The distribution will be held at Sullivan VFW (1146 State Hwy 32, Sullivan) on October 3, 2015 from 9:00 AM to noon.  All Moultrie County residents who meet income eligibility criteria are welcome (see below).  Those attending are asked to bring bags or boxes to transport food.  A representative from Eastern Illinois Foodbank will be present to assist families and individuals interested in applying for SNAP benefits. Knights, Timberwolves Place in LOVC Golf Tourney

•September 30, 2015• The LOVC conference golf tournament at the Kaskaskia Country Club in Arcola was Saturday, Sept 26 with Decatur LSA shooting 315 for team lead followed by Arcola/Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hamond with 317 and Okaw Valley 345. Arcola/ALAH golfer Clayton Miller was conference champion shooting two over par with a 72. He was followed by LSA teammates Dylan Ground and Mitch Creamer shooting 73 apiece for the runner-up spot. Sing Along at Jonathan Creek

OV Holds September 2015-2016 Budget Vote

•September 30, 2015• By Derek Pope Reporting from Bethany During their September regular meeting, Okaw Valley’s board of education will vote on whether or not to confirm their 2015-2016 school year fiscal budget. Prior to the meeting, the board held a public hearing to notify the public and field discussion of the budget in its entirety, as well as matters related to the increase or decrease in its ending balance. Soil Moisture Levels Up for September

•September 30, 2015• Soil moisture levels rose across Illinois the second week of September as the state saw increased rainfall and cooler soil temperatures, according to Jennie Atkins, Water and Atmospheric Resources Monitoring (WARM) program manager at the Illinois State Water Survey, Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois. Stations in the Illinois Climate Network (ICN) reported an average of 1.58 inches of rain from September 8 to 11, with stations in Springfield, Carbondale, and Brownstown (Fayette County) recording more than 3.50 inches during the time period.
