News Progress Posted on December 17, 2014 by webmasterDecember 17, 2014

December 17, 2014 By Tyler Harvey Mo-Do Farm Bureau Manager In the last month farmers have still been tirelessly working in the fields and trying to accomplish as much fall field work they can get done before the weather changes. In the past month numerous tractors, chisels, tool bars, and anhydrous ammonia tanks have been rolling around the area. With this I ask all of you to be cautious when coming up on the machinery. Even with a good amount of this machinery being smaller than planters and combines, caution needs to always be used. With the end of harvest … Read More

News Progress Posted on December 17, 2014 by webmasterDecember 17, 2014

December 17, 2014 Worst night of shooting so far spells ALAH demise by Keith Stewart keith@newsprogress.com The Knights may have suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday night, but it wasn’t all that bad of a thing. In fact, for head coach Dale Schuring, it was almost nice. “Obviously there are a lot of things we didn’t do well– a lot of things we can learn from the game, but the bright spot of it is, we lost by 10, and we couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean,” said the Knights’ head coach. “I mean, if we’re going … Read More

December 17, 2014 Extra $25 added on by Ariana Cherry Arthur/Sullivan Reporter A discussion was held at this month’s first city council meeting whether or not to increase the Christmas bonus for city of Sullivan employees. Since about 1999, employees have been given $75. Health and safety commissioner Bill Hagen motioned that it be increased to $100, explaining that $75 doesn’t go quite as far today as it did in the 90’s. Public property manager Mike Kirk seconded the motion, and the council agreed to raise the Christmas bonus to $100. A TIFF participation loan of $680,000 (including full project … Read More

News Progress Posted on December 17, 2014 by webmasterDecember 17, 2014

December 17, 2014 Neoga foul trouble aids Redskin victory by Aaron Dyer Sullivan Reporter Layne McMahon’s skill on the opening jump ball of Friday’s varsity boys’ basketball game against Neoga showed a preview of Chester Reeder, yet again, conquering his old mentor. Some believed Neoga’s head coach, Bob Lockart, would improve from last year’s loss to Sullivan but alas Lockart taught Reeder too well for his own good. Sullivan started off strong in the first quarter scoring six points within the opening three minutes before Neoga had to call a timeout. When the boys came out from their huddles, the … Read More

News Progress Posted on December 10, 2014 by webmasterDecember 10, 2014

December 10, 2014 by Jim Nowlan Outside Columnist Serious political money has begun to infect judicial elections in Illinois (and across the nation). What should be done about it, if anything? At the last minute Democratic Speaker of the House Mike Madigan poured about a million dollars into a campaign for unknown Thomas Kilbride of Rock Island to defeat a highly qualified candidate in Carl Hawkinson of Galesburg (Harvard Law; distinguished service as chair of the state senate judiciary … Read More
