Moultrie Sees Lowest Unemployment in Central Illinois Once Again

August 27, 2014 July still sees slight uptick from last two months by Keith Stewart keith@newsprogress.com Despite a slight uptick from the last two months, Moultrie County’s unemployment rate in July was still lower than any other central Illinois county, marking an ongoing trend throughout the current year. At 5.8, the July rate, which tied for the 10th lowest in the state, was an uptick from 5.5 the two previous months, and so far the county enjoyed its lowest rate of the year in April at 5.4, which was the lowest in Moultrie since November of 2011 when it was … Read More

Men’s Fellowship Breakfast September 13

Solid Rock Chapel in Sullivan will host a men’s fellowship breakfast Saturday, September 13. Doors will open at 7 a.m. for coffee with the free breakfast starting at 8 a.m. Special guest speaker and accomplished deer hunter Steve Lachenmayr will then give his presentation beginning at 9 a.m. Lachenmayr, who was named Illinois conservation land-owner of the year in 2007, will be offering advice to deer hunters and habitat enthusiasts and sharing his Christian testimony. Lake Shelbyville Water Safety Tips for Labor Day Holiday

August 27, 2014 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is urging those who will be spending the Labor Day weekend on or around water to follow these safety tips. Before heading out for the lake or river, be sure to have a life jacket on hand for everyone. The life jackets should be U.S. Coast Guard approved, the correct size and fit, and appropriate for the activity planned. Mattoon Boy Drowns at Sullivan Marina Pool Saturday

August 27, 2014 Boy, 8, found in deep end by Keith Stewart keith@newsprogress.com An 8-year-old boy drowned Saturday while swimming in the Sullivan Marina Pool. Reginald Fulton III of Mattoon was pronounced deceased at 7:52 p.m. at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital according to Coles County coroner Ed Schniers.  A report by the Moultrie County Sheriff’s Department states that its office and the Sullivan Fire Department were dispatched to the Sullivan Marina swimming pool at 6:58 p.m. in reference to an unresponsive 8-year-old. Civic Center Floods After Water Heaters Misfire Sunday Morning

August 27, 2014 For now, only cold water available for showers by Barry Featheringill Sullivan Reporter Early Sunday morning the Civic Center was flooded when one of the two 90 gallon water heaters misfired, causing steam. This in turn caused a solder joint in the 1-1/4 pipe to come loose and flood the floor in the gym and surrounding area. It is thought that, when discovered, water had been running out for between two to three hours. There were about 16 inches of water collected when the leak was discovered.
