Only minor hiccups in season opener for SOV; defense stands strong

Scott England A decent crowd—armed with umbrellas, ponchos, and towels—braved a weather delay to watch the Sullivan-Okaw Valley Redskins cruise to a season-opener win over the Villa Grove Blue Devils. Weather wasn’t the only havoc wrecking variable as cramps kept sidelining players for a couple plays. At one time it looked like a makeshift infirmary on the SOV sideline with players scattered about getting their legs worked on to relieve the cramping muscles. Scott England It’s not how any team wants to start—and Sullivan volleyball is no exception—but the first three opponents the Redskins have faced have easily handed Sullivan another tally in the loss column. USDA forecasts record corn and soybean yields

•September 4, 2024• by Rhiannon Branch FarmWeek Record high corn and soybean yield estimates headlined the USDA’s August crop production report. The agency forecasted a national average corn yield of 183.1 bushels per acre (bpa), up 5.8 from 2023, and a national average soybean yield of 53.2 bpa, up 2.6 bushels from last season. On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
