Food drive

•September 4, 2024• Bethany’s United Methodist Church will be hosting a food drive at the church, located on St. John Street next to the First Christian Church, on September 7th from nine in the morning until two that afternoon. Sponsored by the United Methodist women, the community can drop off any goods for their own community, examples of good donations for a food drive would be canned goods, peanut butter, pasta and rice. Robert Arthur “Bob” Childers Robert Arthur “Bob” Childers, 87, of Gays, passed away 10:56 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2024, at his home in Gays. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in French Cemetery, rural Allenville. New Laker Connect program

2014 Despite a slight uptick from the last two months, Moultrie County’s unemployment rate in July was still lower than any other central Illinois county, marking an ongoing trend throughout the current year. Tentative FY 2025 budget approved

Cherry The 2024-2025 FY Tentative Budget was approved at the most recent school board meeting on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.  The June 30th, 2025 projected fund balance for the Education Fund is $7,493,525 (current balance as of 6/30/2024: $6,671,063). The Operation and Maintenance fund was projected at $2,317,531 (current balance as of 6/30/2024: $1,592,634). Transportation is projected to be at $348,552 (current balance as of 6/30/2024: $360,678). The working cash fund is projected to be $1,233,602 (current balance as of 6/30/2024: $1,062,407). On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
