Dental Hygiene Graduates

•June 28, 2023• Lake Land College dental hygiene graduates received their pins at the annual pinning ceremony. Graduates from our area who were pinned during the ceremony were Kelly McGill and Nashlynn Williams of Findlay and Carlin Shumard of Sullivan. Williams received the Linda Lee Fletcher Scholarship earlier this year. McGill was also recognized for receiving a Heartland Dental Scholarship earlier in the year. Shumard received the Best Dental Hygienist Award, which was voted on by students in the program. … Read More

EMS Program Graduates

•June 28, 2023• Lake Land College recognized EMS program graduates at an annual pinning ceremony in May. Preston Ozier from Bethany was pinned by his dad Assistant Fire Chief/Paramedic Phil Ozier. Zachary Homerding from Lovington was pinned by his daughter Raelynn and wife Dakota. Homerding was the recipient of the Top Student Award for highest score in the program and The Shirley Sherwood Award for Excellence in EMS education. … Read More

Students from our area that received pins were Maria Garza and Shelbi Swartzentruber, both of Arthur; April Decesaro and Savannah McKee, both of Bethany; Alison Beard, Elizabeth Green, CJ Yoder and Sinead Yvonne Weber, all of Sullivan; Scott Fleenor of Windsor. Fleenor also received one of the Associate Degree Nursing Peer Awards for exhibiting excellence in the classroom and in clinical, showing willingness to help others, caring nature, professionalism and spirit. … Read More

Sullivan Fourth of July Activities

•June 28, 2023• Sullivan will celebrate the 4th of July with a parade at noon. Lineup begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Sullivan High School parking lot. There is no sign up for the parade, just show up before 12:00 p.m. Activities in the park will begin at 2 p.m. and there will be a watermelon eating contest, sack races and turtle races. Gov. Pritzker Announces Statewide Partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

•June 21, 2023• On Tuesday, June 13 Governor JB Pritzker joined Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton, along with state and local officials at Maplewood School in Cahokia Heights to announce Illinois’ partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The recently signed FY24 budget allocates $1.6 million to the program, which is dedicated to improving the lives of children by inspiring a love of reading. Boy Scout Troop 39 Holds Court of Honor

In total, the Boy Scouts earned 52 merit badges since last July, and 9 of them advanced in rank. Boy Scouts of America offers 138 different merit badges for Scouts to earn by completing prerequisites, demonstrating skills and applying themselves to learn about the subject. Recipients Announced for Farm Scholarship

Local recipients of the scholarship are: Quentin Day who is a 2022 graduate of Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School. Sign collision at Agri-Fab

In the late afternoon of Saturday, May 31st, there was a single-vehicle accident, with the vehicle making contact with the Sullivan Agri-Fab factory signage located at the factory frontage on Hamilton Street. Per Sullivan Police Department’s Chief of Police, Andrew Pistorius, the airbag was deployed in the incident, and the driver refused medical treatment. No further information is available at this time.
