Visitation will be Monday, March 17, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Reed Funeral Home Sullivan, IL. followed by a Celebration of Life from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Sullivan VFW (1132 Illinois Rt. 32 South). Casual attire is requested. 2015 A Sullivan man was brought up on preliminary first-degree murder charges Tuesday afternoon in connection with the death of a 43-year-old woman on March 4. Not only can a good storyline reside within the pages of a book but so can the opportunity for a good conversation. Sullivan Fire Department: free smoke detectors for homeowners

•March 12, 2025• by D.M. Williamee The City of Sullivan Fire Department will provide free smoke detectors and install them for local homeowners in their fire district. They will also provide free smoke detectors to renters if the landlord contacts the fire department on behalf of the tenant. Landlords are required to have both smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in rental units. Sullivan Fire Chief Chris Wright stated, “natural gas detectors are also a great idea if you have natural gas appliances in the home, as people can become “nose blind” to the smell over time.” … Read More

City approves union contract, TIF agreements

•March 12, 2025• by Sharon Barricklow The Sullivan City Council approved a new labor contract, some tax increment financing agreements, and a plan to hold monthly entertainment on the city square during a busy meeting Monday night. The council approved an agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)  for a new contract for city Water Department workers. Winter utility bill help is available

•March 12, 2025• The C.E.F.S Economic Opportunity Corporation’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) still has funding available for winter utility assistance. LIHEAP provides one-time grants to help income eligible households pay for their winter heating expenses.     Any household that has applied as of October 1, 2024, or after would not be eligible to apply again unless they are being disconnected from their utility service. Applications will be taken on a first come-first serve basis through August 15, 2025, or until funding is exhausted.   C.E.F.S. began taking LIHEAP applications on October 1, 2024, for the current program … Read More
