•April 3, 2024• Following the final meet of the Sullivan Blue Dolphins short course season held in Springfield, the team announced its Championship Team. The team consisted of 14 swimmers: Bryce Badman, Michaela Blickensderfer, Tyler Blickensderfer, Isaac Chambers, Emily Crosier, Aubrey Fultz, Addalyn Hendry, Asher Hendry, Avery Hess, Scarlett Perrott, Mack Pogue, Nathan Rafferty, Emerson Risley and Cadence Schmohe. Thirteen of the swimmers competed at the 2024 PAWW Winter Regional Championship Meet held in Peoria. •April 3, 2024• C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity is now accepting applications for its CSBG College Scholarship. Applications will be accepted through May 31, 2024.  Applications are available at any C.E.F.S. Outreach Office and on our agency website at www.cefseoc.org. Minimum scholarships will be $1,100.00. To be eligible, applicants must meet Income Guidelines (based on gross income) listed on the application form and provide all documents identified on the application form. The scholarship is only available for those who will be attending an Illinois post-secondary institution and enrolled full-time. •April 3, 2024• In a continuation of the discussion surrounding HB 5617, we take a look this week at the history of the name Sullivan uses for its identification: Redskins. Rep. Maurice West’s (D-Rockford) HB 5617 says “that a school board shall prohibit a school from using a native name, logo, or mascot that names, refers to, represents, or is associated with Native Americans, including aspects of Native American cultures and specific Native American tribes.”  Ask almost anyone in Sullivan how long the school has been the Redskins and the most common answer will be, “We’ve been the Redskins forever.” … Read More

Monthly Quarter Madness

•April 3, 2024• Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will hold their April Quarter Auction on Wednesday, April 10 at the at the Sullivan American Legion. Sullivan American Legion Post #68 is the charity of the month. The American Legion Post 68 coordinates services for Memorial Day, the 4th of July celebration, parade and fireworks, and participates in Veterans Day services at the local schools and nursing homes. They provide 4-year scholarships for students graduating from high schools in Moultrie County. And most importantly provide military rites for deceased veterans and their families. Dennis Johnson Dennis E, Johnson, 91, of Sullivan, passed away at 6:05 a.m. Thursday January 18, 2024 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, Illinois. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday April 13, 2024 in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Military Honors will be conducted after the service by the Sullivan American Legion Post #68.
